Wed Oct 14, 2020 9:12 am

Hi, Im new to the Mikrotik world. Currently Im using Mikrotik RB450G router. I just want have a backup router for this and need to know below things. (It's very difficult to find RB450G router because of the availability)

01. Is it possible to use RB450G router backup file with all other architectures like MMIPS,TILE,SMIPS and ARM?
02. What are the alternative routers for RB450G?

Thank you

Do you have the older RB450G or the newer RB450Gx4
https://mikrotik.com/product/rb450gx4

What is your budget? as the new model is only $99 (and would use the older RB450G as the backup).
The RB450Gx4 has the throughput to use a full 1gig internet connection.

If your budget it less than look at the hap AC2. It is just as capable as the RB450Gx4 on throughput plus wifi and comes in at $69.
In fact, I dont see why the RB450Gx4 is attractive at that price point (as one still needs to buy a case and power supply) but the
RB450Gx4 has way more RAM and Storage 1Gig/512MB to 128MB/16MB. I would like to know how this makes the RB450Gx4 better (what advantage?)

Otherwise, I would look at the hex S lineup for backup as a third option (its only advantage is an SFP port).
No the configs are not directly 'backupable' and loadable on a different device,
but one could basically copy the config and get success.
I'd rather manage rats than software. Follow my advice at your own risk! (Sob & mkx forced me to write that!)

No. Even restoring a .backup file to the same model is not officially supported, although if running the same version of RouterOS it usually works.

An exported .rsc file can be imported on other devices, it may need some manual editing to accommodate changes in hardware between different models.

The RB450G is fairly old, as has been said there are newer more powerful models which are less expensive. However, if you need exactly the same form-factor and/or serial port the RB450Gx4 is the current incarnation, prior to that the RB850Gx2.

Thank you for the reply. Yes. RB450Gx4 is affordable. But I need the same configurations which is on RB450G to be there in the new router. How can I load the same configurations to RB450Gx4?

Thank you for the reply. I have another two routers which connected with RB450G. Those are RB951Ui-2HnD and RB2011UiAS routers which use MIPSBE architecture. Will there be nay issues if I replaced my RB450G router with RB450Gx4 since its is using ARM architecture?

No. The connections between devices use standard ethernet and IP protocols, the internal architecture is not relevant.

Really appreciate your help. How about RB450Gx4 OS licensing and all. Is it same as the RB450G?

Yes, they both come with RouterOS L5 licenses preinstalled
