Feature Request: IS-IS

Tue Nov 24, 2020 8:42 pm

Is it possible to have is-is routing protocol in v7? I think that's good IGP for single domain large number of routes like around 100 nodes. Just saying!

Seeing as the focus is on OSPF as the IGP of choice. Unless the routing daemon powering RouterOS is "best of breed" open source(ish) choice... IS-IS in RouterOS I can only see in a far far far away future. As it's the choice of larger SP's (the usual expectation).

The new OSPF is a complete rewrite.

I would like to see IS-IS too eventually but a properly working OSPF is more important to me. Especially OSPFv3 on RouterOS v6 really does not work properly.

If they try to release too many new features day one on RouterOS v7 it will never stabilize. I wouldn't want them to delay ROS 7 release just to add IS-IS (and hopefully they wouldn't).

Initial support is listed for 7.12. So I assume more features to arrive IS-IS related in the future.

Even they provide examples in the docs
But somehow I still haven't been able to use IS-IS for multi vendor

Tried with JunOS and IOS-XE , none of them works

Guess that is the challenge for doing all routing protocols in house instead of leveraging off FRR/bird/etc.

Ok just found out, that it only works for maximum 1500 MTU
Please have jumbo frame support for IS-IS

7.15rc3 , IS-IS still far from usable

1. still limited to 1500 MTU
2. dual stack , IPv6 not established
3. MikroTik and Juniper is not exchanging LSP's
4. no option for metric style wide
5. other routing protocols still can't redistribute IS-IS
