Mikrotik RB1100AHx4 magical reboot

Mon Oct 11, 2021 12:37 pm

Hello everyone!

We got a little problem in our HQ...

Our headquarter has this type of structure:
  • Mikrotik RB1100AHx4 (we can call it OFFICE-MK) connected via LAN to 12ports Netonix.
  • Netonix power some Ubiquiti radio.
  • One of this Ubiquiti radio is an AirFiber 24HD, connected via WiFi to his Station on a mountain
  • The Station AirFiber (we can call it UBNT-MOUNTAIN) is in turn powered by a Netonix, and the Netonix is connected to a little Mikrotik HEXs.

Now, our problem is that when UBNT-MOUNTAIN reboot itself for any reason (power failure or even after a manual reboot), also OFFICE-MK reboot itself, like a magical reboot without reason. Seems to be a power reboot. This reboot leaves no trace on logs, even if in debug mode. Anything. So...what kind of sorcery is this?!

Can you help us to spot the problem? Is giving us some hard times...eheh

Thank you in advance. Have a nice day!

Some electrical problem maybe or power supply failure. You have an UPS to connect to RB1100AHx4?

With this you can discard your electrical installation.

Regards.

Yes, we got everything under UPS.

But the problem is that OFFICE-MK is in our HQ, while UBNT-MOUNTAIN is totally in another place, just same network, but physically placed in another location.

What does the log say - Power outage or watchdog timeout maybe?

Log says nothing. Or better, nothing that connect to those nonsense reboots.
Only happens when this UBNT-MOUNTAIN turns off. But makes no sense at all...

I have found that when some Ubiquiti radios reboot, they seem to create a network loop for a very brief period of time. For instance, rebooting an SU connected to a ubiquiti AP causes the switch port on the AP side to go into spanning tree blocking mode for a brief time, because the Netonix switch thinks there is a loop on that port, which blocks all clients on the AP. Your issue could be related to this.

Ok, so we will try to activate RTSP on OFFICE-MK ethernet port and see if we solve the problem. We keep you update! Thank you very much.

I've seen that RSTP song and dance with Cambiums as well when paired with Netonix boxes.
I don't like switching off Spanning Tree for obvious reasons but it was the only way on some runs to get links stable whenever we had power dips or firmware updates etc.
