Cannot connect using MAC with Winbox

Sun Oct 17, 2021 8:03 am

Hi,

I'm trying to accomplish the goal of this topic viewtopic.php?t=140572.

The first step is to reset the configuration with the no-default option and then I'm supposed to connect to my access point using the the mac address.

My device has 3 hardware interfaces: two ethernet ports and one wlan.

I have an ethernet cable between my laptop and on of the lan ports (the POe in, and I'm using a POE injector).

Before I blew away the config, I recorded the MAC address for the two the ethernet ports (not knowing which one is which).

Winbox is unable to connect using either MAC address. Winbox does discover the device, though this is really hit or miss. As indicated in the bottom panel (I've tried this plugged into both ethernet ports).

I am trying with admin as the user and also with no user.

I know the cables and the ports work because 1. the device is getting power and also I had played around making he device a dhcp pass through and my laptop's port received an IP from the upstream router.

Here is the winbox output:
ConnectWindow::onConnect

Hello,

just to confirm, have you statically assigned an IP address to your laptops ethernet port?

Typically I set 192.168.88.45, netmask 24 and gateway 192.168.88.1

Then you should be able to click on the MAC address in winbox and away you go.
