Hairpin NAT behavior

Fri Oct 22, 2021 4:13 am

Hello,

I have configured hairpin NAT via WinBox on my router to access local IP address via public network within same network. My question is when I access the app via public address with in same network it uses internet to upload or download anything rather than using local network to share files across the app which makes it a lot slower.

Is this how it is or should I look into my configuration ?

It would help to see the Hairpin NAT config you've implemented

Being slower than a direct connect to the local ip is expected.

Part of the traffic is going to be routed on the local router instead of forwarded on the l2 layer which takes more specialized or cpu resources and router intervention, but it doesn't go through the internet and speeds wouldn't be limited by your WAN speeds.

Looking at your Config may prove useful to ensure optimized.
