Vrf vs Vlan

Sat Oct 23, 2021 4:32 pm

Wanting to segregate the network on a RB3011 and was wondering about the best possible performance my ISP offers 2Gb download speeds so two ports on the fibre router get 1Gb each.

Being that the RB3011 has two switch chips would it be more efficient to set ether1 as a wan with 2 to 5 on 10.10.10.0/24 and then eth6 as second wan and 7 to 10 on 10.10.20.0/24 and give each ethernet port group it's own VRF table.

Or would Vlans offer better performance?

Also how do I set the firewall up if there are two subnets each with it's own VRF table will the default firewall rules work?

Not sure you would need a vrf table.
Just route Subnets, in any format you want to use, to appropriate wan interface.
firewall rules used to allow deny traffic between subnets for example........
Sounds like you already have a decent plan to separate the etherports into two groups based o switch chips..........
Lots of ways to separate
bridges
vlans
etc.....
