Internet access via Campground Wifi using Metal 52 ac and a Netgear R6400

Wed Nov 17, 2021 2:21 pm

Objective:
- Connect the Metal 52 ac to the Campground Wifi
- Connect the ethernet cable from the Metal 52 ac to the WAN slot of the R6400 and
- Provide Internet access to all R6400 connected clients (cabled and wifi) via the Metal 52 ac.

Equipment:
* Wifi Campground:
192.168.0.XXX providing an Address via DHCP

* Mikrotik Metal 52 ac running Router-OS 6.49 (stable)

* Local Router (Netgear R6400)
192.168.1.1
DHCP Server Range 192.168.1.10-192.168.1.100

Status:
- Can connect the Metal 52 ac to the Campground Wifi without any issue. That was the easy part.

- But I cannot get the Internet access working from the R6400 clients side.
- My assumption is that some additonal routing is necessary but there my network skills will become "faint" ... ;-)

Questions:
* Is, what I am trying to do, technically possible or is there anything which will prevent that?

* Has somebody a working configuration for that scenario?

* Or any other hint or solution?

thanks in advance for your help!

Most Wireless-Networks do not support Multiple Client behind a Wireless-Client (802.11 limitations for L2 bridging)
A lot of different Solutions to this problem...

The "Easy" way is to use NAT
aka. Configure the Mikrotik as a Router

If you need help...
Simply POST the actual Config (/export hide-sensitive file=anynameyoulike)

Is the Metal52 getting an IP address from the 192.168.0.x wireless network, or are you trying to get an IP address in that subnet on the WAN interface of the Netgear?

Is the ethernet interface on the Metal 52 bridged with the wlan interface and simply passing through the traffic to the Netgear, essentially acting as a media converter or are you asking it to do more?
