winbox URL Protocol

Fri Dec 10, 2021 11:48 am

Hello, Everybody
For better use of winbox, I ask MIKROTIK to make an implementation of the WINBOX URL protocol:
[HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT\winbox\shell\open\command]
@="\"d:\\path\\to\\winbox.exe\" %1"

And it will work:
url=winbox://<login>:<password>@<host>:<port>
or
winbox.exe winbox://<login>:<password>@<host>:<port>

PS: Support this project and this add-on will make it easier to manage devices using winbox

winbox url protocol will be useful for monitoring systems, internet browsers
need URL protocol, NOT command-line!
the example describes only the implementation method

I assume Normis only wanted to show that there are more parameters available with Winbox.

Maybe I see to many things going wrong lately but I am a bit skeptic to being able to provide the password when starting Winbox from the prompt.

Your password is plain visible when you start Winbox this way and that can be recorded/stored, and then misused on a later moment.

What if you can instruct your Winbox never to accept an password that is in plain view and that is the default setting. It can be changed to accept plain password on each separate existing profile.

To take a step further is, when no password is accepted and a call is made (user profile) with using a password a flag is set, urging on successful login to set a new password. Indicating so that password might be compromised and that there was a login attempt. Displaying date and the time of the last attempt.
