Best settings for PS4 - DMZ?, Fasttrack, Queue?

Mon Dec 13, 2021 12:32 pm

Hello,

My chain to PS4 looks like this:

ISP radio link> MikroTik router main> MikroTik AP> MikroTik HAP> Powerline Ethernet adapter> Powerline ethernet adapter> PS4

Main MikroTik router as DHCP server rest as Clients.

What I have done so far:

1. Tried DMZ or just simple NAT rule , dsnat>dst. address: public ip> tcp> dst. ports: 1-65535 and action dst-nat to PS4 IP
NOT working no traffic and PS4 still shows NAT type 2 not NAT1
2. Tried Queue to main router ethernet 1, and got lucky to cut down all up and down limits for all clients - checked with speedtest.net really got 5Mbps down and 1 Mbps up.
3. Tried separate queue to ps4 IP address but no luck

Should I stay with Queue to limit all and then make FastTrack to PS4 IP?

Please help/share    with best way how to give most traffic to PS4 and let other users to buffer a bit for Netflix or YouTube etc.
I only can use web interface or play with winbox, to dumb for anything else.

1. Queues
If you are unable to Control the devices on your Network,
then Queues are usually the only ways to manage Bandwidth / QoS.

This allows you to, for exemple
1. prioritise the PS4-Traffic (like you normally would for exemple VOIP)
2. reserve Bandwidth for PS4-Traffic
3. Limit Non-PS4 Traffic, etc...

2. Fasttrack
If your Main Router has high CPU-Usuage
And because of this, you are not able to
achive ISP-Speeds. Then you might want to
activate Fasttrack. Be aware, that there are some limitation
when using Queues and Fastpath together.

3. DMZ? / PS4-Network
Having a dedicated Network for the PS4,
can help with Performace, but only if your Main-Network
is already a burdened with High Traffic / Broadcast, etc..

VLAN`s are usually used to segregate a Network....

If your are not confortable with Mikrotik and VLAN
I wouldn`t recommend it

Thanks, didn't expect anyone to reply as it was no activity for several days here.

What I did and it looks like it is helping is Queue settings.

I found good instruction about how to make main Queue and then create Queues for all IP range using terminal.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=SnDQZjh ... =techieLAB

Then by making static IP for PS4 and for other users I can control each IP upload/download limit.

Anyway I love Mikrotik when it works ;)
