hAP ac3 wifiwave2

Mon Dec 27, 2021 2:52 am

I just got wifiwave2 configured on my hAP ac3. Everything appears to be working correctly but there seems to be a lot less settings than before I enabled wifiwave2. What is anyone's thoughts on wifiwave2 on the hAP ac3? I feel like I'm missing something by the lack of settings.

I'm new to Mikrotik but I don't see how to setup a second SSID. I'd like to have an IoT SSID setup on a separate VLAN at some point in the future. I'm running ROS 7.1.1 by the way.

The wave 2 driver is EXTREMELY LIMITED in what it sends back to Mikrotik.

However... Once configured... I have the best throughput and connectivity I have EVER SEEN from Mikrotik Wifi to date.

For a second wifi... Add a VAP.

Then you need to look at VLAN filtering.

What do you mean by "sends back to Mikrotik"?

Thanks for the information on the VAP and VLAN filtering. I'll look into that.

Another thing I noticed; CAPsMAN doesn't seem to be available either. In the wifiwave2 documentation it sort of alludes that the hAP ac3 should have CAPsMAN capability. There are asterisks next to some of the other supported devices with their limitations including no CAPsMAN support, but it doesn't say anything about CAPsMAN not working for the ac3. Maybe the documentation is wrong.

My preliminary findings, shows not only an increase in Performance (aka. Speeds)
but with RouterOS 7.1.1 an addition in Network Stability (less disconnects , etc..)

I experienced an improvement of around 20 to 30% in Speeds (Mbps)
But some guys on the Forum have claim up to 50% perfromance increase.

So if you have a "need for speed" =)
stays on the new wifiwave2-Package.

Capsman & wifiwave2
At the moment, it is not possible to operate Capsman with any wifiwave2-Devices.
I think Mikrotik had their hands full, trying to release a Public-Stable ROS ver7, before the new year =)

Lets hope a Capsman upgrade will come soon ...

WiFi Wave2 and Virtual-Interfaces
It is still posible to create Virtual interfaces (see Attachement)
Don`t forget so assign the "master" interface.

That's good news about the speed. I haven't really performed much speed analysis. Speed is not as important to me as coverage. So far I'm not having any issues on wifiwave2.

Thanks for the info on configuring VAP's. Seems pretty easy. Next step is to get VLANs working. I've read quite a bit about them but I haven't tackled that yet. One piece at a time. Hopefully I'll have this thing fully configured this week and replacing my current firewall.

Hi
I know this is a old thread but was wondering if you could assist based on your experience in setting up vlan in wifiwave2?
I am not sure if this forum has a DM to contact you directly so I am using this medium.

I have similar setup but cannot seem to get my vlan working with VAP.

Any assistance would be appreciated.

Virtual access point will become a wifi interface.
From there it is an interface just like any other.

Post your config so we can have a look.
Export config, edit using text editor.
Leave out serial, public ip and any sensitive info.
Then post contents between code quotes.

Sounds very familiar to this post.
The documentation and videos are so good, there are no issues...

Re: hAP ac3 wifiwave2

I assume this is the config for AC3 you mentioned ?

One thing I already see:
/interface wifiwave2
set [ find default-name=wifi1 ] channel=*2 configuration=cfg-mIoT configuration.mode=ap datapath=*1 \
disabled=no name=hAP_wifi1 security=*1
You did define channel before but removed it ?
You did define datapath before but you removed it ?
You did define security before but you removed it ?

Then how is it supposed to work ?

Where are the virtual wifi interfaces added to bridge port with the vlan id to be used ? They are missing.

I think it would be best to merge this topic and this one: viewtopic.php?t=201201 because OP have same questions in two different places.

That other post already has a lot more responses so might be a problem to merge everything correctly.
