RB4011iGS+ panics on boot

Wed Dec 29, 2021 6:34 pm

I have a RB4011iGS+ which I've wiped and upgraded to RouterOS 7.1.1. It was working perfectly yesterday until I rebooted it in error via the UI, and now it refuses to load the kernel image - see below. Bootloader is v7.1.1.

I have a separate, identical unit which is running fine. Is this likely to be a hardware issue and I'm just unlucky that it hit me mid-way through configuration?

setting up elf image... OK

Most probably you're unlucky. And very likely you can revive your device by netinstall-ing it.

You're quite right - I booted from another partition, wiped the first and it's all working with the same RouterOS version.

Is there any way to dump the contents of the configuration file should this happen again, or even do a low-level binary dump of the partition?

I got this kernel panic second time...
One on v7rc3 in September - I considered it a coincidence.
Yesterday second kernel panic on v7.1.1 - after a power failure - power reboot.
I created SUP-70307.

It's not possible to dump partition to file. The closest thing is binary backup ... in certain circumstances even better possibility is configuration export, it creates text file (good for readability), but lacks a few things (users and passwords, certificates). Make sure you fetch those files (backup or export) off device before device gets into unusable state next tome ...
