Audience wifi ROS 6 vs 7

Thu Feb 03, 2022 12:58 pm

Dear Sirs,
I've tried out the new stable Routeros 7 and the v7.2rc2/3, now I get a huge bandwidth decrease with new versions.
My ISP max speed is 70Mbps :
- with 6.49 I can achieve the same speed on both 2.4 and 5Ghz.
- with 7 I can achieve max 40 Mbps and some android client refuse to connect to 5Ghz without any error in logs.

The only notice I've got is this message at startup:
while running customized default configuration script: bad command name wireless (line 977 column 25)
I've tried a complete reset without configuration, but still got the message and bad performance.
So I kindly ask you, shuold I downgrade and keep 6.49 on the router, when will be v.7 really stable?

Thanks, BR

Your mentioned 70Mbps should be peanuts for the Audience on the 5GHz band.
In the end it always comes down to good configuration, especially out-of-the-box performance can be disappointing.

Can you share your current config (/interface/wireless export)?
Have you tried the Wifi2 package (wifiwave2-7.1.1-arm.npk in the extra package: https://download.mikrotik.com/routeros/ ... -7.1.1.zip)?

Out-of-the-box configuration should at least give 70mbps. And when 6.x can easily outperform these 70mbps from the ISP on a default configuration, why should one need to tinker with wifi-configuration on a ROS 7.x - just to get lousy 70mbps right?

A ton of routerOS wireless settings seem to be missing when I put the Wave2 Drivers in using 7.1.1.

But the radio throughput is far and away the BEST I HAVE SEE FROM A MIKROTIK RADIO SERVING WIFI CLIENTS.

Thanks for the replies, I've already installed all additional packages, here's export from v7, anyway seems that security profile is disappeared from export action.

I stopped reading after reading V6 , tx-power=7dBm ...
7dBm ???? This reduces speed considerably. Do set country Italy , now "no country set" (may be overruled by CAPsMAN), you are on the FCC (US) frequencies.

https://www.sniffwifi.com/2019/12/are-y ... -down.html

freq 2452 (channel 9) you're sure of this selection???
freq 5745 (channel 149) not allowed in Italy AFAIK.

On routeros v.7 the power is managed by the Ap, it isn't set neither shown. If I put 7 in Tx Power it decrease the signal seen by the clients, right now result in: more power less bandwith.
With v.6 manual set of 7dbm tx power, result in 70Mbps speed and this means it was good for the case.

About country it's already set on Italy, on both version.
More power isn't an option, many user nearly and if with v.6 the speed was good with less power, why v.7 should be different?

Yes, CAPsMAN confuses me. What is actually used ? I'm not a CAPsMAN user.
more power less bandwith.
Should only happen if the client sees a stronger signal than -30 dBm. 7dBm is very low, should be around 14dBm (EIRP = +5dBi antenna gain+ 3 dBi dual chain)
More power isn't an option, many user nearly
With low power you have lower SNR and lower interface rate, and are using more air-time than needed. No so good for your neighbors also.

I don't know what's wrong with ROS 7, but the 7 config is incomplete (export has now different oprions)
Like "/ip firewall nat
add action=masquerade chain=srcnat" is missing the "out-interface-list=WAN"
But as all interfaces are bridged, it does not matter here.

CAPsMAN allow to manage multiple distribuited AP devices, was available on v6 and it seems it doesn't work with wave2 on v7,
Thank you for your advices.
I will open a ticket with support about the incomplete config.
Have a nice day

On my Audience I reset it with no default configuration and set it all up manually.

Over 5ghz I get 300 down and 50 up which matches my 330/50 fttp.
2.4ghz is a mixed bag, I'm in the UK with a fixed 20mhz channel 13, I see 100 down and 50 up over 2.4.

I would stop using the default configuration, the audience uses Capsman for the wireless meshing of the second 5ghz.
