Any MikroTik device with radio(s) running RouterOS can be configured as an accesspoint.

...yep, just use it in "bridge mode" only and do not add/enable any firewall rules.

This is the beauty of RouterOS. You can use nearly all product in the way you like to use it.

So is cAP XL ac also a router then? cAP XL ac looks more mainly as access point but hAP ac is like a wireless router?
You get my question right?

I can use hAP ac as wireless router but cAP XL ac needs a router to work?

Cap xl ac is also a router, it has the same RouterOS with all bells and whistles other devices have.
The only problem is cap XL AC only has 2 ethernet ports which might make it a bit more difficult to use it as a router in some cases. But it can be done.
Even with 1 ethernet port it is possible (Router on a Stick). So even cAP Mini or mAP Lite can be used as router if you want (they only have 1 eth port).
That's the power (and for some the problem) of RouterOS. It is so flexible you can do a lot with it, things you need to pay a lot more for when comparing to other vendors.

The real intend of cap xl ac however is to be used as access point. But it does not REQUIRE a router. It can do so on its own.
Hap ac is a bit hybrid. It can easily be used for both since it has more ethernet ports available.

No, cAP XL can work as a router on its own.
Any MikroTik device with RouterOS can be configured as a router.
Whether it works as an access-point or as a (wireless or wired) router depends only on your configuration - that is the beauty of RouterOS

Quite so. I I'm using one as an AP, but it's a reasonably capable router if you want to use it as such. On the other hand I'm using something sold as a quite powerful router (RB4011 WiFi) as an AP and gigabit switch, simply because it was the cheapest multiGig capable AP I could find at the time (it's still one of the cheapest options, I think).

RouterOS gives you the flexibility to do pretty much whatever you want with your gear.

And different speeds on ethernet ports, or wireless channels, or ... :D
Obviously you need to do your homework before using a device in a certain context.

i see got it now...other brands/products are not like this
an access point usually can not be a router
makes mikrotik special in its own class i guess

True, but most home router I have been working with can be set to bridge mode, so you can use a home router as an access point or as an switch.
