CCR2004-1G-2XS-PCIe on PCIE x4

Wed Mar 23, 2022 12:14 pm

Hello,

the CCR2004-1G-2XS-PCIe is designed for PCIe x8. How does it behave when it is installed in a PCI slot that electrically only offers x4?
Will it work? Will some virtual NICs be omitted, if so which ones?

Greetings,
Peter

Indeed, that can be usefull to know. As if we turn off the router function and used it as nic card, will it give like a 24gb total ? Or like speed reduce to 12gb on each port ?

I have one of these devices, however in my testing I only have servers with PCIe 3.0 x8 and higher ports, so I can't explicitly confirm the function, but in my experience with slower ports you will likely still see all the virtual devices however they will be limited to the bus bandwidth speed, and if you want to saturate the SFP28 ports you'll be swamping your x4 slot and throttle the speeds on each port (3/4 are only Gigabit anyways as they pass through from MGMT port).

If it were me, I would put this into a different server and use a fiber connection to the card for the best speeds.
