LHG Lite60 Bridging

Wed Mar 30, 2022 9:17 pm

Hey Everyone,

I am in the process of learning to work with the LHG series in general. We have a few LHG Lite60s we are using in a lab environment. Our goal is to bridge them and provide a client with a DHCP lease. We first tested the units out of the box and configured them with the basics to just connect the two units. By default, wlan60-1 was already bridged to ether1 on both units. Both units connected and showed good signal. However, absolutely no traffic was properly bridged. How we tested this was by connecting one side to a router that has DHCP setup. We confirmed the router is in working order as we directly connect to it and receive an address. We then connected the other side to a laptop with DHCP enabled for the interface connected. No DHCP lease was received. However, the DHCP server indicated a lease was offered. The laptop being used to test is a MacBook Pro. We decided to test with a Windows 10 laptop. The windows 10 laptop would bind to the DHCP lease. However, it could not communicate beyond the router.

Ill be frank, these are symptoms of miss identified packets and or our ignorance. However, if I setup a DHCP client on the far side LHG wlan60-1, it will grab an IP from the DHCP router and connect to the internet. However, any device connect to the same LHGs ether1 interface, fails.

Our end goal
We are looking to replace quite a bit of our short haul and client connectivity with Mikrotik. However, we have had no luck implementing basic bridging.

Target configuration

LHG Lite60 1 (Connected to router) bridges customer public DHCP VLAN 1245 and VLAN 1235 for CPE management. Management interface would be configured on ether1, VLAN 1234
LHG Lite60 2 (Connected to client) bridges customer public DHCP VLAN 1245 to ether1. Management interface on wlan60-1, VLAN 1235 for CPE management

We employ a similar configuration using UBNT gear currently and it works well. We are having trouble wrapping our minds around the way Mikrotik handles this type of traffic. Any thoughts or guidance would be greatly appreciated.

Re: LHG Lite60 Bridging  [SOLVED]

Well, we have come to the conclusion that RouterOS does not support standard Tagged or Untagged ports. We have determined we will need a managed router for every client we utilize the LHG 60G series radios for. Not a major issue just a higher expense.

As @fragtion wrote, ROS does support VLANs and every device running ROS can be a fully managed router.

Check this tutorial about how to deal with VLANs in ROS.
