PPPoE Client BT Broadband Bouncing and losing Internet

Sat Apr 02, 2022 1:26 pm

Hi,

Just wondering if someone could confirm these logs please.

Does this show a potential fault with the line. It was installed for a couple of weeks and but then started to have more and more disconnects as below. The bit which confuses me is ET2

Eth1 is to the VDSL modem and Eth2 is LAN. Why is that bouncing if it were a dodgey line?

I have updated the firmware to latest and set the timeout to 999 but any other advice would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks.

Unlikely to be the FTTC connection itself. If it were just ether1 it could be the VDSL modem misbehaving, but as it two ports at the same time it is most probably port flapping - there are a number of posts in the forums for some models which seem to suffer.

Thanks for pointing me in the right direction. I have disabled cpu flow control on switch one to see if that makes any difference.

That didn't make any difference. Going to upgrade to v7 to see if that fix's things. Can't be a 100% sure but seems stable if I am winboxed into it (from WAN).

Which model router do you have? I have seen this where the ethernet link goes up and down with a huawei FTTC modem, move your FTTC modem to the last port on the router and change your configuration as needed.

It's an RB2011. I have tried changing the LAN to port 7 so it's on a different switch group but that hasn't made any difference. It tricky to try and fix as I only have remote access and it's offline most of the time. It seems to be getting worse which is strange. I think It was this modem that was fitted - BT Openreach Huawei EchoLife HG612 3B FTTC VDSL Fibre Modem.

It's a faulty unit. Got it back on the bench and all the Ethernet sockets are constantly flapping. Can get into it to flash it with netinstall either so it's going back.
