Dying Gasp Syslog message.

Wed Apr 13, 2022 9:30 am

Hi Mikrotik
Next time your dev'ing up some hardware, can you look at the possibility of adding in a 'feature' as seen in some Cisco gear known as Dying Gasp.
It would be nice for the last function of a router/switch who has remote syslog to receive a message with. I'm done, all power has been lost
I think Cisco use some large capacitors to hold the circuits up for a few 10's of mS, just enough for it too see mains power is lost and to send out its last ever message as a syslog.
Better than trying to work out a remote cable has been cut etc..

I'd add to this wiring it to W_DISABLE pin miniPCIe/M.2 a pin. Most LTE modules also support dying gasp, at least Sierra and Telit, but they need to know their "dying" to send a last-ditch SMS.

This dying gasp message would be useful for us as well as in some cases we can't always tell if it is a power outage or not. We have other vendor equipment that sends this and it is helpful in those cases. Might be best to open a support ticket about this to request the feature as they may not see it here.
