/system routerboard upgrade

Fri Apr 15, 2022 6:37 pm

Hi,

I would like to know if this is necessary to perform /System RouterBoard firmware upgrade after performing /System Packages routeros v7.x update on RB5009?
Seems the RouterBoard firmware always come with the same new version as the RouterOS each time.

However, from the Announcements page of the forum, it only mentions
... To upgrade, click "Check for updates" at /system package in your RouterOS configuration interface, ...
Any advice, pls? Thank you.

Needed / necessary ?
Not always.

But in order to avoid potential issues, best to keep them in sync.

I have noticed in later versions of 6.43.x for example that the package updates automatically update the routerboard too. With earlier versions of Ver. 6 the routerboard update was treated separately. It would be logical that Ver. 7 would also continue to update the routerboard along with the package updates. I don't use Ver. 7 yet. Awaiting long-term-stable version which appeared for a while and then went away.

This can be easily tested. View the current routerboard ver. before and after a package update to see if it still follows like in Ver. 6.43.x.

Do only it if auto-upgrade, introduced on later version of routeros 6.43.16, on system/routerboard/setting is on.

One thing I have noticed in 6.43.x is that when using a script for scheduled updates, the routerboard gets the update, but it still needs a system re-boot to use the update. I always figured this was a minor bug in the update process.

...when using a script for scheduled updates...
If someone schedule updates just when updates go out, have seriously brain problems...

What exactly you mean is obscure.
There is no bug, probably you do not know than until the update is not installed the update inside the update can not update the updated bios than for be run the updated version require a separate boot.
