Can't obtain IP through specific Cap

Tue Apr 19, 2022 12:02 pm

Hello,

I am Mikrotik newbie and choose Mikrotik due to known reliability, but now I am having problem with configuration. I already wrote to support which first said that I should upgrade to version 7.2 and after that I got the answer that they don't offer configuration support and should rely on forum. So here is my description:

What am I using:
- RB951G-2HnD router
- cAP Lite
- cAP RBCAP2ND

The configuration is made so that there is a separation between guest LAN, guest WI-FI and home LAN/WI-FI. Guest LAN is on port 5. The reason is that they have an apartment to rent.

First we had cap Lite and was connected to the to Capman through cap mode. All works fine and was provisioned, and also I can switch it between home and guest WI-FI.

"Some days ago" I added RBCAP2ND. It was also added through cap mode. I managed to provision it and also set it for home WI-FI.

The problem I now have is that I try to login and I don’t obtain IP for client devices through that cap.

When looking through configuration I saw that the biggest difference is that cap1 (127.0.0.1) and capLite are “slave” and this new one is “master”. Is this the a possible problem and how can I change it.

I am also attaching the export of the configuration and some screenshots:
- Attached screenshot: cap_interface.png
You can see that “cap pogacar” status is MB, but for the others is SMB.
- Attached screenshot: remote_cap.png
You can see that all devices are at version 7.2.
- Attached screenshot: interfaces.png
You can see that interface “cap pogacar” is missing “S”
- Attached screenshot: bridge_ports.png
You can see that “cap pogacar” is missing.

Thank you for you help, I will really appreciate it.

can you send through the config for the cap so we can see how it is set up as that could be part of the problem? also what port is the not working cap client connecting form?

As requested:
on capsman controller and "bad boy"-cap device  perform /export filename=<anynameyouwish>

Extract exports, review for remaining sensitive info and post each separate between [code] quotes.
You might also want to provide brief info on how those devices are connected physically.

Hey,

attached you can find 3 files:
- capsman configuration
- "good cap" configuration
- "bad cap" configuration

Both of them are connected directly into the router:
- "good" into port 4
- "bad" into port 2

I have even try to switch them, but did not change anything.

Are those the full configs for those devices ?
Because I'm missing quite some stuff which might or might not be relevant.
With that config you do not have a capsman manager so something is not shown.
Where is e.g. something like this for the controller ?
/caps-man manager
set enabled=yes
/caps-man manager interface
set [ find default=yes ] forbid=yes
add disabled=no interface=bridge
Anyhow, easiest solution without spending too much time on config:
already tried on badboy to do system / reset configuration - capsmode and no default configuration ?
It's the easiest way (apart from the reset sequence) to put a clean device in caps mode.

Yeah, this are the full configs. I have also noticed it is different now in v 7.2 than it was in 6.xxx. Anyhow in both cases it was not working.

If I do this, will I need to put the device back into capsmode? If so this means I need to drive to my friend to test it. :D
Is it possible to put device into capsmode from terminal or webconfig?

The part I showed which was missing, is also from ROS7.
So it IS missing on your end, I believe.

Sure.

Terminal:
/system reset-configuration caps-mode=yes no-defaults=yes
Confirm with Y
