Question about VRRP

Sat Apr 23, 2022 7:23 pm

Hello to all,

I want to do VRRP with Mikrotik, but I would like to know the following things:

1) Is it possible to do VRRP with a Mikrotik SXT LTE that has a single WAN port?
2) On a Mikrotik that has multiple ports, a 960PGS for example. Should we dedicate a port for VRRP and if so, should we take it out of the Bridge?

I have already done a VRRP with two 960PGS and it worked more or less. Now I'm trying to do the same thing, but with a 960PGS and an SXT LTE

Thanks a lot

And you know what VRRP is, right? Because if you do, these questions seem weird. VRRP gives your virtual IP (and MAC) address, which is by default on primary router and if it dies, backup router(s) take over. It doesn't matter how many ports each router has. If you'd have two LTE SXTs, I see no reason why you couldn't use them, only you'd have VRRP on their LANs, because VRRP on WANs would require special arrangement with ISP. And bridge or no bridge, it depends on how you need things connected, VRRP doesn't care about that. Is it posssible that by "doing VRRP" you mean something more than just using VRRP protocol?

Hello,

You were right, I had a bad understanding of VRRP.
In the end, I just need to add a backup route in 4G.

Thanks for your information
