ERROR : ERROR:could not mount the disk please attached it somewhere else

Hi Everyone,

My OS working fine since last two month but suddenly i am getting this error

ERROR: could not mount the disk
please attached it somewhere else


#Netinstall not working
#I tried to other system but same error.

Please help me restore the error without losing my data and programming.

Mikrotik Support
is not up to the mark so I need Your help via this forum

You have not provided ANY relevant details.

You still use RouterOS 5.20?

After 6 years the HDD can be broken...

I am using router OS 6.49, just purchased lic lvl 6 2 month ago. Sine last two month it was working fine but suddenly after reporting my server i am getting this error.
I cant access OS to for providing you the more relevant info.

Kindly tell me how can provide you more info??

Did you check the disk on another computer, or start the server with some USB or CD / DVD utility to check that the disk is working properly?
Or file system check?

If fsck or other utility do not repair the disk, try to install again RouterOS by CD or by USB image.
You can select from setup utility to keep previous license and configuration (but NOT the files) if the license and/or the configuration still readable.

You can also ask support@mikrotik.com to transfer the license on another HDD, but if required you must send the HDD to Latvia.

First of all, be careful! Before you try to do ANY disk checking or run any tools on that drive, make sure you have full disk image.
ROS license depends on some magic bytes in the MBR and system partition and if they are modified by any software, you lose the license FOREVER.
Reinstalling ROS will only retain the same machine ID (and license) if disk contains this information. If it's zeroed or wiped or changed, your license is gone because your machine ID will be different.
Especially if you paid for lvl 6 you have to be careful. Always have backup at hand in case some fdisk or repair tool changes these important bytes.
