Tri-band access point (two 2.4 GHz & one 5 GHz)

Mon May 02, 2022 9:18 pm

Hey guys,
I'm looking for a tri-band access point like MikroTik Audience (one 2.4 GHz & two 5 GHz) but it should have two 2.4 GHz & one 5 GHz wireless channels included.
Any idea?
Thanks!

MT does not have one off the shelf. So you might create your own by taking one of devices with plenty of mPCIe ports and add 2.4GHz cards to it.

Beware that if you're not very careful with antennae, it might not work due to self-inflicted interference ... both 2.4GHz radios will not be synchronized for Tx/Rx periods and even if both radios use different channels, RF filters on Rx side are not good enough to cancel all the energy in same band outside used channels. Which means that when one radio is transmitting, the other radio receiver might be "deafened" ... only antennae separation can help here (e.g. when using two highly-directional antennae, placed in the way that minimum gain directions face towards each other).

BTW, this is the very same reason for audience (having two 5GHz radios) to be HW limited to use one part of band per radio ...

Are you looking for gigabit ethernet, as you could connect a hAP ac lite and a mAP together to achieve this, I gather you are looking at using one of the 2.4ghz purely for NV2?

Mikrotik does not make boards with 3 slots at the moment, such boards have been discontinued.
Therefore, you will have to use 2 devices. Describe your task in detail and we will tell you how to implement it.

Thanks for all the details and the explanation!

I had also thought about a setup like this, but I need 1 Gbit/s to the client.
Details about the wished setup see below. NV2 will not be used.

2,4 GHz "Uplink" to wireless hotspot of mobile phone (LTE or 5G).
MikroTik Router as VPN client, tunneling all the traffic.
WLAN for clients: 2,4 GHz + 5 GHz
LAN for client: 1 Gbit/s

With 2.4GHz (or even 5GHz) uplink, you can forget already about Gb speeds ...
Your complete chain can not be faster then the slowest link.

The ethernet part may advertise 1 Gbps, but you will never be able so send the traffic over it to go out.
It will choke on the wireless 2.4Ghz or 5GHz link.

Unless I completely misunderstood what you're planning to do.

Your device if you really want an all-in-one wAP ac LTE kit. (hAP ac³ LTE6 kit, Chateau LTE12, Audience LTE6 kit, Chateau 5G)
You won't even need a phone.

2,4 GHz "Uplink" to wireless hotspot of mobile phone (LTE or 5G).
...did you consider to use USB Tethering on the Phone to connect/passthrough LTE/5G to MT device?
See example here: https://blog.ligos.net/2017-08-16/Mikro ... droid.html
