Understanding the interaction of queueing parts in RouterOS

Tue May 10, 2022 12:00 am

Hi,

I'm trying to set up fq_codel because the Waveform bufferbloat test gives me kinda bad grades (Bs and Cs). In Webfig, under Queues, it seems that you need to run HTB alongside of fq_codel. I don't quite understand how these two things work together. I was under the initial impression that they serve the same function, but https://wiki.gentoo.org/wiki/Traffic_shaping (under "Theory") suggests that "INGRESS" and "EGRESS" may use one while the other, well, uses the other. I'm not a fan of just plugging in values that someone else told me to; I prefer to learn what is actually going on.

Thanks!

Not a direct answer to your question, but if you just want to get an A rating in the test, take a look at this video: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=wNT3CqmVFi4
When I just got started learning about fq_codel and SQM in general, I tried the simple suggestion in this video and immediately got an A. There is no values to plug in other than your download and upload speed. See if that solves your immediate problem.
