In my testbed, I'm using the routing capabilities of the CCR2004-1G-2XS-PCIe for my proxmox virtual machines and the 25Gbps passthrough interfaces for largely unrelated communication between my server and storage cluster. However, every now and again I want to give some virtual machines WAN access and do so by
- Creating a linux bridge on the proxmox host
- Adding a host interface connected to WAN
- Adding one of the non-passthrough ether-pci interfaces.
This seems to work but I'm curious whether there is a better way of organizing this. For example, I also considered WAN through the 1Gbps management interface. My primary concern is whether there is a performance cost paid by going through the linux bridge either in throughput or cpu utilization on the proxmox host. It's not a major concern for my testing but I'm curious whether others have considered this issue before. Are you using the routing on the CCR2004-1G-2XS-PCIe differently?
Thank you
