Power supplies for netPower 16p (CRS318-16P-2S+OUT)

Fri May 20, 2022 9:26 pm

The netPower 16p switch (CRS318-16P-2S+OUT) specifies a max power consumption of 316W. However, the two 48V power supplies (48POW, 48V2A96W) provided by Mikrotik only supply 70W or 96W. And even the MTP250-53V47-OD power supply only provides up to 250W, which is significantly lower than 316W.

48POW: 48V x 1.46A = 70W
48V2A96W: 48V x 2A = 96W
MTP250-53V47-OD: 53V x 4.7A = 250W

How are these power supplies sufficient to power the netPower 16p? If the POE output is loaded to the max, wouldn't the power supply be insufficient using these Mikrotik power supplies? If I'm powering a lot of POE devices, it seems that I may run into issues.

The netPower 16p specs states "DC jack input Voltage: 18-30 V / 48-57 V" but the current requirements are not specified for the dc adapter. Does anybody know how I could determine whether a third party dc adapter provides a high enough current output? I'm looking into dc adapters from other vendors but I don't want to damage the netPower 16p by using a dc adapter that does not supply high enough current output. For example, I'm looking at the Veracity 57V power supply that provides a current output of 1500mA: https://www.veracityglobal.com/media/14 ... _dv1.3.pdf.

Thanks for providing some advice on this. My main concern is what if the current output of any power adapter is too low for the power consumption of the netPower 16p (i.e., max power consumption of 316W)? Will this damage the switch?

The switch has two power inputs, one for 18-30 V and one for 48-57 V. Recomended power supplies (MTP250-26V94-OD and MTP250-53V47-OD) can supply up to 250W each. Then it depends on powered devices what kind of supply voltage require. Most Mikrotik devices gladly accept the low voltage variant and many accept the high voltage variant. And some accept both. So it is possible to have setup where mentioned power supplies provide enough power for everything. If one connects only devices requiring voltage of one variant (e.g. third party 802.3 af/at devices), then power adapter might get overloaded ... and I don't think switch will do anything to protect power adapter. So it's up to network admin to take care of it.

I just purchased the netpower16 and im waiting for it. but I did just only order the 96W adapter. And fear I will only be able to power 4 low power APs from Unifi. I was hoping to get the most out of every port. I see the MTP250-53V47-OD but I wish I knew what the heck it connected to? lol it only shows the device itself. What do the ends of the cables look like and what do they need to be spliced to or connected to. I was mainly hoping to use these for outdoor events where we have had switches not survive the elements.

Thank you !!

I see the MTP250-53V47-OD but I wish I knew what the heck it connected to? lol it only shows the device itself. What do the ends of the cables look like and what do they need to be spliced to or connected to.

Product page of netpower 16p has a few pictures, one of them is showing the connection side. And clearly shows two barel power receptacles (each marked with voltage ranges) so I think it's safe to assume that PA connects there. No splicing needed, barel plugs are standard for Mikrotik.

I’m sorry I meant for the MTP250-53V47-OD where it would connect to the power not the switch. I’m on the product page and don’t see any barrel plugs. Just the dc jacks

Which are two names for the same thing:

Seems like you have to mount the input power wires to power plug appropriate for your locality ... input voltage range is 100-240V, so it should be able to take whatever voltage thrown at. As shipped plug-less means you have flexibility to do mains power connection whatever fits you ... very Mikrotik style
