CAKE limits the download speed after the link speed has just been upgraded

Thu Aug 04, 2022 8:26 pm

What is the correct SQM configuration for Internet 612/92Mbps on FTTH and GPON ONT in transparent bridge mode?
Protocol PPPoE, MTU 1480, maximum size of ping packet 1452 and RTT < 10ms.
C:\WINDOWS\system32>ping -t -l 1452 -f 10.255.24.70

Pinging 10.255.24.70 with 1452 bytes of data:
Reply from 10.255.24.70: bytes=1452 time=1ms TTL=63
Reply from 10.255.24.70: bytes=1452 time=1ms TTL=63
Reply from 10.255.24.70: bytes=1452 time=2ms TTL=63
Reply from 10.255.24.70: bytes=1452 time=2ms TTL=63
Reply from 10.255.24.70: bytes=1452 time=1ms TTL=63

Ping statistics for 10.255.24.70:
    Packets: Sent = 5, Received = 5, Lost = 0 (0% loss),
Approximate round trip times in milli-seconds:
    Minimum = 1ms, Maximum = 2ms, Average = 1ms
My current CAKE configuration limits downloads to 400Mbps after the link has been upgraded from 240/36Mbps, upload is limited according to the Maximum Limit which I set to 95% of 95Mbps.
The Speedtest confirms maximum connection speeds when queuing is disabled on the router.

What are the recommended queue type and parameter settings for Overhead, MPU and RTT?

Can you post your queue settings? IMHO this is not enough information. Besides, I found that cake (as others have already said) is quite CPU demanding. My hEX at home is able to use cake in a simple queue as a router up to about 130 MBit download. With fq-codel in the same setup I can achieve 180 MBit downloads.
