Internet block on wlan but avoid android disconnection?

Thu Aug 11, 2022 7:08 pm

Hi folks,

I have an app that works on an intranet and run on android devices connected to a specific wlan ssid. I separate those devices on a specific vlan to have more control. I need the android devices connected on my wlan but I don't want them having access to internet to avoid traffic, unwanted updates and everything else.
The problem is if I do a firewall rule to block all the vlan traffic to the internet, then the android disconnect the devices from the wifi network and sometimes blocks the access to this network until manually forced to reconnect.

How can I make android believe it's connected to internet but don't allow other kind of traffic?

I hope I was able to explain my scenario.
Thanks for the lights.

Devices such as Android tries to access "special servers" to see if it has internet connection or not and if it is behind a captive portal setup, i.e.

http://connectivitycheck.gstatic.com/generate_204
http://www.google.com/gen_204
https://www.google.com/generate_204

So you could possibly allow access to DNS and these to fool the device in thinking it has internet access
