CCR2116-12G-4S+ DOESNT RECOGNISE M.2 SSD FROM MY OLD RB1100AHX4 DUDE EDITIONS

Thu Aug 25, 2022 11:19 am

I just replaced router my RB1100AHX4 DUDE EDITIONT with CCR2116-12G-4S+ and I installed the 60GB M.2 SSD from the old RB1100AHX4 on the CCR2116-12G-4S+ but the new CCR2116-12G-4S+ doesnt recognise the M.2 SSD . I have formatted the SSD severally but still same issue. Please i need resolution to this issue immediately becos i need to run my usermanager database on the SSD.

1100AHx4 had SATA drives, CCR2116-12G-4S+ uses PCIe drives

@antonsb
The website for the CCR2116 mentions up to 1TB for the NVMe disks. Is there anything technically preventing us from using 2TB, 4TB, or 8TB disks?

we have tested drives up to 1TB, but i don't see why larger drives would not work. From software side there is nothing that blocks larger drive use.

I put a 4TB drive in my 2116 today. I originally put it in a USB enclosure and partitioned it on a CCR2004-16G-2S+ running 7.6. Then I moved it to the 2116. It turns out the 2004 created a 2TB partition and formatted that, leaving the remaining 1.8TB unused.

Once on the 2116, I went to format it again, and it couldn't do it with a partition table enabled (running 7.7). I formatted it without a partition table and it is working fine with all 3.8TB available.

I copied all the files using scp from the old SSD to the new one, but the permissions were wrong and the containers wouldn't start. It looks like I'll have to rebuild the containers from scratch (mostly the pi-hole one). There needs to be a better way to synchronize two disks across routers and maintain proper ownership for files.

2TB is known limitation of venerable MBR partition table type. If one uses larger disks, it's necessary to use new GPT partition table type ... and it seems ROS doesn't support it yet. Whether ROS lacks only support for creating these partition tables (in normal linux that's done using userland application, e.g. parted or fdisk) or it lacks also support for reading/using them (kernel support) should be possible to find out: connect large disk drive to proper linux, create GPT partition table, create partition with size larger than 2TB and create ext2 file system on this large partition (this one is supported for sure, I'm not sure about newer ext3 and ext4). Optionally copy some files to newly created filesystem. Then insert disk drive in ROS device and see if file system is recognized and is usable.

I am a new user of CCR2116.
I am trying to set up a Pi-Hole, but since the storage space does not fit the files, I have inserted a WDS100T2X0C-00L350 drive, but I am unable to format it.

My RouterOS version is 7.10.1.
I have all the necessary packages installed, both "container" and "rose-storage"

When I try to format the drive, it doesn't matter which file system I choose, FAT32 or EXT4, it always formats it in FAT32, also when the process ends, the system reboots, which I don't know if it's normal.

Are you sure that "rose-storage" works correctly?

What's more, does it work?

I had to disable it to be able to use my M2 NVMe drive
