Moving configs between TIK router models

Mon Sep 19, 2022 6:12 am

I tried moving a config from a CCR1009 to a CCR2004 just using backup and restore and it didn't end well half the config was lost.
I have also been caught with when you do this the MAC address gets copied and you have to go along and reset them all.

So just wondering what is the preferred way to do this?

/export file=name

download name.rsc to computer
open with plaintext editor, to see what to change for the new device
upload to new device

/import name.rsc

There is no «preferred way», there is the correct way.

And the correct way is also to write the correct model, CCR1009 has 4 variants with 8 or 7 gigabit ports, 1 combo or less and 1 SFP with or without 1 SFP +

For CCR2004 there are 3 models, but for sure, seeing which can be the starting model, it is the CCR2004-16G-2S + PC.

The backup is used to restore the configuration to the same device model.

To copy between two different hardware, it is necessary to export the Certificates (if present),
the SSH Keys (if necessary) and the RouterOS Script Configuration, the .rsc file.
(Also must be considered user-manager or dude, if one or both are present)

To get an .rsc file, if it's v6 follow the @normis statement, if it's v7, use "/export show-sensitive file=fullexport".
