[SOLVED] GESP - Confusion with the included hardware

Sat Sep 24, 2022 6:30 pm

Hello.

I bought Mikrotik GESP , expecting it consists of two parts: indoor and outdoor module.

In the gallery I saw two pictures: one with outdoor module and one with indoor. But in my package, I have only outdoor module, no indoor inside. I try to figure out, how to buy indoor module separately, but he is absent in the accessory list, so I cant found it and have not any info how too google it.

In the manual both devices present, and no words about indoor module: "For maximum protection, you should use a surge protector on both ends of long cables", but nothing about difference between indoor and outdoor modules.

But more interesting is assembly guide: inside my outdoor module is something other, than specified in schema as "GESP", and it cant be removed from "Outdoor case" completely and assebled again to something like indoor module, because have not own body\frame, just a PCB inside plastic holder that fix it inside "outdoor case".

So, can anyowne tell me, what is actually the indoor module? Is it exists? What is the article number? I completely confused with GESP.

Thanks.

The original gesp looked like this

https://www.streakwave.com/mikrotik-ges ... -protector

The docs probably refer to the newer model.

Do you have the older or newer model?

On main page simply, without daring other interpretations or suppositions to what is written:
GESP is Gigabit Ethernet Surge Protector [...]
They come sealed inside a new and improved IP67 weatherproof enclosure.
Simply on internal side, if you want, do not use the (included) IP67 weatherproof enclosure.

And about number of pieces included, is clear that is present only one GESP with the enclosure.

But I agree that the brochure can be misleading because, from the photos and the example,
it looks like there are two in the box, one with and one without enclosure...

But what is this indoor part? Looks like white plastic box with RJ45 and GND wire is not a part of GESP package. Main issue is how\where to get it.

Inside outdoor case is only a GESP PCB with RJ45 and GND wire, but this PCB is NOT in white plastic box as on picture below. Its packed in black, non-solid plastic holder.

I disassebled outdoor case and make some photos to be clear:

1. What is in package?
2. Disassembled outdoor case
3. PCB in plastic "case"
4. RJ45 cannot be pushed through the plastic nut

Your recomendation "if you want, do not use the (included) IP67 weatherproof enclosure" is not applicable, becase GESP inside outdoor case cant be removed (ok, with a little damage it can), and cant be mounted somewhere because it have not own frame\body (look at 2 and 3 photo).

Obviously, I can just put this GESP with outdoor case to my server rack (and same to outdoor device), but it will look awful and cumbersome.

So, "to whom it may concern" (c)

Support says:

It seems you have received faulty device, the pcb should've been enclosed within indoor case.

Support suggest to use my local distributor RMA system or warranty repair for device replacement.

Today I receive replacement for my previous "broken" GESP devices. I took a few photos for those who are interested in what it should have looked like after all.

1. What is in package?
2. Disassembled outdoor case

Older photos are in this post #5. "Feel the difference" (c)
