Dual Stack VETH interfaces

Sun Sep 25, 2022 9:19 am

Hi Everyone,
Do you know if you can dual stack (IPV4 and IPV6) veth interfaces or if they support IPV6?

I tried to create one with an IPV6 address and it gave me "Error in Address - address expected" in winbox and an "invalid or unexpected argument base" from the command line so I suspect not. I also didn't find any documentation if I could.

Regards

Try adding the veth interface with an IPv4 address, and then attach an IPv6 address to it as to any other L2 interface. I don't know the details of the implementation so it may or may not actually deliver the IPv6 packets to its counterpart in the guest OS.

My container gets an IPv6 addr via SLAAC (I have ND running on the bridge under which that veth sits). So it does the job, I guess?

This confirms that the IPv6 traffic does pass through the veth (provided that the container indeed gets an other than link-local IPv6 address).

Thanks guys.

I have added an address to the bridge and was able to static the docker address as well so I guess the answer is yes but not in Winbox directly.
