RB750v2 board headers Tx/Rx, 3v3, ground, is it a serial port?

Thu Sep 29, 2022 8:54 am

Hello,
I'm attempting to make a serial connection to an RB750v2 on the board header sockets that are labeled Tx, Rx, 3v3 and ground. The TI HC595 chip next to it implies that it may be a RS 232 serial interface.
I don't see anything listed under /port and when I try to add a console serial0, it says that there is no port, which is sensible.

Am I trying to do the impossible or is there something I am missing or...?

TIA

Hi,

I think you mean a HX Lite (rb750r2). In such cases OpenWRT is your best source of info:
https://openwrt.org/toh/mikrotik/rb750_r2

This is the important bit (part of the Notes section):
the bootloader is not initializing the serial PINs so the serial console wont work (until bootloader reflash)
So probably you will never get it to work on ROS.
You might try to change the bootloader, then reinstall ROS.
You need to backup your license key and this will void your warranty. You will find lots of useful info on the OpenWRT wiki.

Indeed, I do mean the r2 and thanks for digging that up!
Now that I've soldered on headers, this one will be my OpenWRT playground I've been meaning to build.
Too bad that they don't enable the port, it would save time and effort recovering misconfigured devices.
