CAP AC as wifi extender for a non-Mikrotik network

Sat Oct 22, 2022 4:52 pm

Hi all,

Is it possible to use cAP AC as a "wifi extender" for an existing non-Mikrotik network?
As I understand using the "CAP" features would require the main router (my ISP's FiberGateway GR141DG ) to support CAP - which it does not.

Could you guys tell me where to start?

Thanks!

I used this blogpost to configure a travel router.
You might not need NAT, but the idea is exactly the same:

You might not need NAT ...

Since the AP is made by different vendor, cAP ac can not be used in wireless bridge mode (that only works between compatible devices), so it has to be in routing mode. To avoid NAT on cAP ac, ISP's router would have to support routing towards additional LAN and to exclude that traffic from being firewalled. Which is not exactly SOHO functionality. So probably NAT will have to stay in the config.
