MikroTik hAP ac RB96ZUiGS - PPPoE throughput capped?

Tue Nov 01, 2022 11:22 am

I have a MikroTik hAP ac RB96ZUiGS

I recently upgraded to fibre broadband, a 900Mbps service, and I am seeing speeds of 940Mbps download using a FritzBox router supplied by my ISP.

My MikroTik that I normally use is only getting around 200Mbps downstream.

I had a look around the configuration and couldn't see any speed caps or anywhere to specify a speed cap.

Is this a hardware limitation?

The ISP supplied router doesn't support multiple external IPs, so would prefer to continue using the MikroTik if this speed issue can be resolved.

Official test redults indicate that this device can route at 300Mbps (give or take) depending on configuration ... most often the number under "routing - 25 filter rules - 512 byte packets" resembles reality the best. While it is possible to squeeze more throughput out of this humble device I highly doubt it's capable of getting anywhere near 1Gbps.

Your particular use case (PPPoE) does reduce throughput considerably on many device models, hence current throughput you're seeing (200Mbps) seems to be quite right. Much more powerful device is needed to get near your desired goal ... look at RB5009, RB4011 or hAP ax3 (if you don't mind getting wireless device).

Thankyou. I will look at buying a more capable device.
