/ip dns static
add type=FWD name=<hostname of your hotspot status page> forward-to=8.8.8.8

OH NO................. explanation provided?

I was looking forward to how redirecting dns to 8.8.8.8 google, and thus bypassing the proper DNS for user protection, was going to work with that line of config ???????????????

Isn't it self-explanatory enough, as RouterOS config mostly is? If there's query for given hostname, it will be forwarded to 8.8.8.8 instead of to main servers in /ip dns.

Sorry, my bad, I misundertood what you need. I thought you have router behind another hotspot, which sounded a bit weird... anyway, I was wrong. Unfortunately, I don't know much about RouterOS hotspot.

It seems that you want your users to use router as DNS resolver, to be able to resolve that hostname which points to 192.168.88.1. I'm guessing you give those two DNS servers to users? It would make sense that resolving your hostname doesn't work. But it should be the same with Google servers, because they are also external servers that can't know anything about your local hostname.
