hAP ax2 randomly drops WiFi SSIDs (both 2,4 and 5Ghz)

Wed Nov 30, 2022 11:34 pm

Hi!

I have recently bought a Mikrotik hAP ax2 router, running routerOS v7.6 but I am facing a few issues already...
One (which is being the most serious) that sometimes all of a sudden the wifi networks stop working, the SSIDs are not visible when searching for WiFi networks from devices. Of course connected devices also lose the connection. This happens for the second time in 3days. The networks do not come back (not even half an hour or an hour later). The only thing that restart the transmission is when I open the wifi network from winbox (double click on the network in Wireless menu) then push the Scan button (at this stage is still nothing happens) and then Close that window with the particular wifi interface. After closing the window the transmission restarts immediately and I see the following in the log:

22:14:17 wireless,info BC:DD:C2:0E:11:97@wifi2 connected, signal strength -57
22:14:18 wireless,info 78:0F:77:FD:7D:28@wifi2 connected, signal strength -54
22:14:18 wireless,info BC:DD:C2:0F:10:84@wifi2 connected, signal strength -73
22:14:18 dns,packet --- got query from 192.168.1.25:41708:
22:14:18 dns,packet id:85de rd:1 tc:0 aa:0 qr:0 ra:0 QUERY 'no error'
...
...

nothing else remarkable can be seen in the logs. I am attaching the whole debug log from around that time when transmission from wifi2 restarted (at that time I have already restarted wifi1 transmission with the same method).

Can you help me solve this serious issue?

Thank you!

Best regards,

I also have random Wi-Fi drops on the hAP ax2 but in station mode. I've only seen it on 5 Ghz which made me think it was the AP to blame.

Could be that the drivers in ROS 7 are immature and not very stable at present.

Just to make sure: can you share your config (to see if anything could cause this)?
/export hide-sensitive file=anynameyoulike (and make sure to remove any personal information)

Hi.
I am also facing this situation. All clients are disconnected, the 2.4 and 5 GHz networks become unavailable.
In the wireless interfaces list I disable and re-enable interfaces and its turns on.
RouterOS 7.6.

I see it in the log, nothing else:

Hello, i´ve got brand new hAP ax2. I removed default conf from the router and then, wireless interfaces are missing (not sure if even existed before removal). Downloaded, installed wifiwave2. Configuration is okay, but e.g. cell phone is not switching between 2.4GHZ and 5GHZ. SSID and psw are same. Next: Unable to configure virtual interface. Could you please assist with this issue ? or any reason why is this happening. Is it bug or what....
Thanks for every reply.

sid123 can you make a separate topic for your issue? this topic is about a specific issue.

everyone else - we are seeing something like this too. we are working on a fix in the internal betas right now, so next major v7 release should hopefully resolve the problem.

Same problem here. I do a reboot every day at 0600, as it usually drops sometime at night.
Enclosed my cfg.

p.s. in the log I see a lot of connected/disconnected pairs of devices. Added a few lines as example.

Great to hear that you were able to reproduce the issue. Thanks Normis!

Can't wait to use my ax2 boxes in prod after this is fixed :)

@Coolbox:
security.authentication-types=wpa-psk,wpa2-psk
I would expect at least wpa2-psk (and perhaps wpa3). Why use wpa-psk?

Same here. WiFi drops every night, only reboot helps.

The scan trick doesn't work for me. I found no way to broadcast SSID again yet except rebooting the device.

Is this limited to AX2? Because i have Capsman controlled network (Capsman on my main router, version 7.6, AC3) and i noticed few times, in the middle of the night, that i completly lost acess to all Wireless networks. They ware simply gone. I powered computer up at 2 AM and tried to connect to AC3 with LAN cable via Winbox without sucess.

But apparently internet was still working since all the cameras i have in my home network ware acessible from mobile network.

Reboot solved the issue but i don't have any logs on that since i could not connect to AC3.

I don't think it's related. The hAP ax2 is accessible via LAN. It just stops broadcasting BSSID beacons and you can't connect anymore...

The 7.7rc2 release has fixed my issue with the hAP ax2 radios.

With the countries field now populated, the wifi radios start up and devices associate just fine. Thanks to the Mikrotik team for getting that taken care of!
Not sure whats exactly was his issue. I will give 7.7rc2 a shot.

I'm running latest 7.8 and got same issues. Atm I'm unable to connect without factory reset... Aside from randomly dropping WiFi network I also saw networks randomly starting up even though they were disabled.

Those of you posting to this thread - might I recommend my other thread: viewtopic.php?t=194216

TL;DR: For your 2GHz network, force the master interface's band to 802.11n (i.e. 2GHz N). For your 5GHz network, force the master interface's band to 802.11ac (i.e. 5GHz AC).

If this works for you, you'll have to give up the 802.11ax capability, but it might gain you stability until there's a way/improvement for AX to live nicely with some devices.

Let me now if this helps, and definitely let me know if this doesn't help so I can be sure I'm not providing garbage advice in the future.

I have a setup where I have 3 WLANs 5GHz and 3 WLANs 2.4GHz paired (2.4 + 5) into 3 wifi endpoints. I was trying to prepare nice config file, which I could gradually improve with better firewall setup or VLAN configuration... AND it was pissing me off(!) because my WLANs were unstable, some were visible, others not. Sometimes it was 5GHz that was working, sometimes 2.4GHz - it was changing after reboot or something? But it looks like I've finally solved the puzzle!

Can you spot the difference?

it's the "" around the name of the country in wifiwave2 configuration. For some reason if the "" was missing the config loading was unstable and country was not setup in configuration properly. Because of that ie. only one group of networks was working, sometimes the other one and sometimes none... The country seems to be required to be set for the wifi to work stable. Not sure if that would help you with your issues, but looks like setting country with "" solved my issues. Wifi is stable over last 3 days.

Re: hAP ax2 randomly drops WiFi SSIDs (both 2,4 and 5Ghz)

Fri Apr 07, 2023 6:56 pm

I have the same problem with a hap ax2, which has been presented here before and I have not found any solution. I installed firmware 7.6 and every day, both wifi networks (2.4 and 5Ghz) suddenly disconnect and I can only reconnect them by rebooting or disabling/enable each wifi channel. I tried to update to 7.7, 7.8, 7.9rc2, no change. It disconnects permanently. Besides this problem, in 7.7, 7.8, 7.9rc2 the signal strength decreases by 25-30% compared to version 7.6. Do you know any solution to these problems? I'm a bit fed up with mikrotik and the software problems. Since I switched from hap ac2 to hap ax2 always the same problems!
I tried changing channels, frequencies, etc., the signal strength does not increase (only in versions higher than 7.6 - in version 7.6 the signal strength is good). I live in Romania.

Is there really no solution for these problems?? Many people have reported this! WHAT'S MIKROTIK DOING???

Can no one help me? I found that the best ros, for me, is version 7.6 (from the point of view of signal strength, perfect download/upload), but there are repeated drops of the wifi network(2.4 and 5Ghz). What settings can I make to this ros 7.6 to stop having these repeated drops?

I don't think it's defective. Several users complain that they have this problem with the random disconnection of both wifi networks. I think it's a software problem.
Disconnection occurs randomly every 1, 2 or more days.

I think it was to get a REFUND, TO BUY SOMETHING ELSE. Not a replacement Mikrotik that would have the same issue.

Maybe someone from Mikrotik support will give you an answer. Does hap ax2 have this hardware problem? Anyway, five months have passed since I bought it. I can no longer ask for a refund.

Do you think mikrotik will come on a forum and say:
Yes, this is a known hardware problem.

Without even seeing the box???

Get a reality check for your expectations.

Send it back!

Thank you!

Best regards,
Krisztián Barassevich
Did you solve the disconnection problem? I have the same problem with a hap ax2 and I can't find the solution. I didn't find any solution from Mikrotik support either.

Please explain to me, step by step, how to enter "" before and after the name of the country. I'm a beginner, I'm not that good at it.
Thank you.

I am experiencing very very similar issue with my hAP ax2 with ROS 7.9 (all version up to 7.8 worked). For me, the latest usable version of ROS is 7.8.

For about a month, I no longer have the problem of disconnecting from wireless networks. The only changes I made to the settings are:
- Security - Authentication Type: I checked only WPA2PSK and WPA3PSK. The rest default.
- Channel - Skip DFS Channels : All. The rest default.
I made the settings the same for both networks (2.4 and 5Ghz).
I have hap ax2 with ROS 7.6 and I don't do any updates anymore. I hope it will continue to be stable.
I repeat, I haven't had any problems for a month

I see the same problem on ax2 and ax3, both running 7.9 and also RouterBOARD firmware 7.9.

However, I only see it in the logs. In my client side, I never see a disconnection, which is weird. I even leave SSH sessions open for more than 5 days on my clients, they never closed, so that means the Wi-Fi never disconnected.

No idea what's going on in the logs. But PMKID cache is buggy, I disabled it, if you enable it, then clients will disconnect for real.

The beauty of TCP (which ssh uses as session layer) is that it can survive intermittent disruptions in connectivity of underlying layers. Duration of "intermittent" can be anything from seconds (in the middle of active data exchange, depends on TCP retransmission timeouts) and hours (when ssh is idle and ssh isn't configured to send keep-alives).

So what you see doesn't mean that stations didn't disconnect. They might have and then reconnected - to same wireless interface of same AP (or another AP in same L2 network). The two conditions are: station reconnects soon enough for TCP to handle it gracefully (not too hard in normal conditions) and station keeps IP address (even if DHCP doing gets triggered for any reason).

Noticed today complete unavailability of ssids using wpa2/3 after 4 days uptime on 7.9 stable.
1 ssid with only wpa2 still worked.
Reboot of AX2 solved the issue.

Something to monitor...

Updated to 7.9 (stable) on tuesday, I've had to reboot my hAP ax2 twice this week because clients couldn't associate to any of the wifi interfaces anymore. Seems like the wifiwave2 driver just crashes after a while. Disabling and enabling the interfaces does not solve the problem.

On my ax3, the wifi problem occurred after updating to version 7.9.
Suddenly all wifi connections disconnect and I'm able to connect again after a reboot of the router .

In my case it were only the WPA3-enabled SSIDs which would not work anymore. Kept asking for password but would not accept it.
I have one SSID using only WPA2, that one still worked (that's how I connected to reboot the AP so I know for 100% certain that one worked).

Mine is configured with
security.authentication-types=wpa2-psk
for both interfaces, so I don't think the problem is WPA3-related.

Update: it just happened again. Router uptime is less than 24h. Disabling/enabling wifi interfaces does not work. Tried changing some settings, but there seems to be no way to make it work except for rebooting. Sent supout.rif to support@mikrotik.com.

I had a similar issue on ax3, starting after sw upgrade to rc2 or rc3, can't recall. After the stable 7.9 upgrade, it remained and was very annoying.
What helped in my case: export full config, restore to default, move configuration from export to the router (I did a manual copy/paste), and reload.
No changes in the config. Just redo starting from a default one. No issues since the change.

Re: hAP ax2 randomly drops WiFi SSIDs (both 2,4 and 5Ghz)

I wasn't able to do so before since I was busy IRL and was mucking around with containers on the ax3. Now that has passed, I've started keeping track of the ax3's wifi and any correlation with its config.

The last time I rebooted was 6 May around 1am. Current wifi uptime is 4 days 2 hours.

Before the 6th, I would have hangs from every few hours to every 2-3 days. This happened on 7.9rc1-5 and 7.9. If and when the wifi hangs, I get tons of "disconnected, key handshake timeout" for both 2.4 and 5Ghz. Shouts from wife and kids follow suit.

Clients include:
1. iPhones (4) (ax, ac)
2. Macs (2) (ax, ac)
3. PCs (3) (ax, ac)
3. 1 lonely Android phone (ac)
4. iPads (3) (ac)
5. AppleTV (1) (ax)
6. HomePods (2) (ax)
7. Apple Watches (2) (5Ghz n)
8. Aqara Hub (1) and Wifi Cameras (4) (2.4Ghz n)

FWIW, I'll post my latest config below in case you all need to compare. For this latest config, the 2 things I've changed are:
1. .disable-pmkid=no (I've had this at yes or no previously. Didn't seem to make a difference.)
2. .wps=push-button (This is the first time I've enabled it. I always had WPS disabled.)

For completeness sake: my Audience (ac device) was happily running several different wave2 incarnations (starting with 7.1rc) ... it started dropping all clients after 4 days of uptime after being upgraded to 7.9. So it's not only ax devices.

Needless to say I downgraded it to 7.8.

Already had required packages downloaded to Files but was hesitating.
Now you mention this, time to hit "downgrade"

hap ax3, ros 7.8 and 7.9 have the same problem - randomly drops both 2,4/5Ghz WiFi SSIDs about one time to week, WiFi LED also stops glowing. After turning on/off, WiFi is restored.

On my macOS client if wireless interface is disconnected, it also loses IP addressing, macOS immediately terminates all network sockets. So I digress.

Even constant ping is 0 packet loss but hAP ax2/3 shows the errors still.

hAP ax3 v7.9
Last reboot 6 May ~1am. Current wifi uptime is 5 days 1 hour.

Gonna hang to 7.9 for awhile to see what happens.

Last major "key handshake timeout" was May 3.

May/04: 4
May/05: 0
May/06: 6

It looks like version 7.10beta5 tries to fix the problem, has anyone tested it?

What's new in 7.10beta5 (2023-May-09 13:38):

*) wifiwave2 - avoid transmitting extra bytes at the end of the packet after stripping a VLAN tag;
*) wifiwave2 - do not show placeholder transmit power values on interface startup;
*) wifiwave2 - fixed CAP connection when provisioning "manager=capsman";
*) wifiwave2 - fixed DFS channel availability warning (introduced in v7.9);
*) wifiwave2 - fixed dynamic interface adding to bridge on CAP device;
*) wifiwave2 - fixed inability to disable CAPsMAN when there are RADIUS-authenticated clients connected;
*) wifiwave2 - fixed incorrect limits on number of interfaces in station mode;
*) wifiwave2 - fixed interface name change when restoring backup;
*) wifiwave2 - fixed key handshake timeout with re-associating clients;
*) wifiwave2 - fixed OWE authentication compatibility with 802.11ax client devices;
*) wifiwave2 - fixed OWE authentication compatibility with third-party client devices (introduced in v7.8);
*) wifiwave2 - improved logging when an interface is unable to assign a VLAN tag to client;
*) wifiwave2 - improved system stability when trying to exceed virtual AP limit;
*) wifiwave2 - improved system stability;
*) wifiwave2 - restore interface running state when connection to CAPsMAN is lost;

Thanks! It just confirms what I wrote some time before. These are not stable products, and we’re all beta testers.
I can’t recall any other company with such a massive major sw version deployments. Mostly with bug fixed and new bugs introduced.

They should put disclaimer on the box: it as a beta product for IT enthusiasts who wants to lose some time working as our beta testers for free.

2. .wps=push-button (This is the first time I've enabled it. I always had WPS disabled.)
Why these specific two changes ?
I was out of ideas. Nothing seemed to work.

I've tried disable-pmkid=no for awhile. Didn't make any difference so changed it back to yes.

wps is always the first thing I disable but wps=push-button was the default so I thought, let's change it back to the default and give it a try.

There were absolutely no technical reasons for my choices except let's go back to the defaults. So far ok, 5 days 16 hours and counting. ax3 still on 7.9. It's 5:30pm May 11 here and so far : 1 x key handshake timeout for today.

Update: 12 May 5:40pm
ax3 7.9. Wifi uptime: 6 days 17hrs

May 2: key handshake timeout: 0, can't find PMKSA: 54
May 3: key handshake timeout: 371, can't find PMKSA: 2
May 4: key handshake timeout: 4, can't find PMKSA: 0
May 5: key handshake timeout: 0, can't find PMKSA: 0
May 6: key handshake timeout: 2, can't find PMKSA: 1
May 7: key handshake timeout: 1, can't find PMKSA: 0
May 8: key handshake timeout: 0, can't find PMKSA: 2
May 9: key handshake timeout: 0, can't find PMKSA: 1
May 10: key handshake timeout: 8, can't find PMKSA: 0
May 11: key handshake timeout: 5, can't find PMKSA: 2
May 12: key handshake timeout: 10, can't find PMKSA: 1

Update: 13 May 3:50am
Finally ax3 7.9 wifi died. Total wifi uptime: 7 days 2hrs. Time to try 7.10beta.
May 12: key handshake timeout: 11, can't find PMKSA: 1

Same behavior here, regardless of firmware. So I decided to take out the two screws on the front to see if anything had wiggled lose on the board.

Nothing obvious. I did see at the base of the board, there are two small SMA type connectors that appear to be connected to nothing, but I'm assuming that the antennas are built into the board - and hoping our problems aren't caused by missing antennas ;-)

cAP AX user here

Same behavoir - randomly shuts both SSIDs once a day or two.
ROS 7.9, PMKID disabled, WPS disabled, Skip DFS is set to all (but shouldn't make any difference since 2.4 is also affected)

Same problem, I'm using hAP ax2 and ax3, reboot or disable then re-enable interface and Wi-Fi works again.

Adding a +1 to this. Have been running 7.10rc1 for 8 days and the fault occurred again. Will update now to 7.10rc4

I don't think updating to 7.10rc4 will bring any improvement right now, as i can't see that rc3 or 4 have any wifi improvements.

7.10rc1 works for me now, only one PMKSA error in 12 days.

Similar issue here!My cAP ax randomly drops all wifi connections and if anyone tries to reconnect it asks for password.Even if the correct password is entered,it refuses connection.
Only reboot helps.Using 7.9.2 Os.

Nah, no change with this, am on v7.10rc6

I noticed this time that after disabling and re-enabling the two wifi interfaces, as a device would momentarily connect then drop the interface names were showing in italics on the wireless registration tab yet the same interfaces on the interfaces page were normal.

Has 7.10 solved the problem of wireless networks dropping? Has anyone tried? I don't give up on 7.6 because of the higher signal strength. OS 7.7, 7.8, 7.9 and 7.10 have drastically reduced signal strength. But with 7.6 I have daily network drops. I really don't know what else to do. I use hap ax2.

No. 8hours after 7.10 installation. 40+ devices and 4 AX caps. Mikrotik AX is a money waste!

Mikrotik support kindly provided alpha version of ROS in this topic for testing, maybe you should try it and if you have problems you can give them feedback.

Another datapoint:
I have a hAP ax2 that randomly drops the 5Ghz wifi. It's only the 5Ghz radio. It can be very difficult to get the radio to to start transmitting again. Disabling and re-enabling the radio does not fix the problem. Rebooting often does not fix the problem. Resetting the configuration often does not fix the problem. Sometimes powering off the hAP ax2 for an hour or two will bring the 5Ghz radio back.

I am experiencing the issue with both ROS 7.9.2 and 7.10. My RouterBoard firmware is 7.9.2.

I was struggling with the same issue for a month (since I have bought hAP ax2). The issue occurred 1-2 times per day! Every single day! The only thing which worked was a reboot (tried to disable/enable wifi and dhcp server).

Three days ago I have upgraded firmware to 7.10 stable and so far the issue is gone. Keeping fingers crossed!

But what can you say about the signal strength for each frequency band? After the update to 7.10 did it decrease drastically? For me, after the update from 7.6 to 7.10, it dropped from -40db to -55-56 db!! Likewise the download speed!

TBH I haven't checked the signal strength so I don't know what was the impact (unfortunately I have updated to 7.9 just after I got the device). Now I have downgraded it to 7.6 to see whether it helps (uptime 1d+ now).

In case of switching back to higher versions I will be monitoring the signal strength and will let you know. Although I have 2 more days to return the device to amazon - if the issue happens one more time I will just give up I think (which I really regret as I was so excited about this device, and I really like(d) Mikrotik products)

Just wanted to mention: Someone above has suggested to use N wifi standard (instead of AX) and I have tried it (in the same time I have disabled wifi 5ghz) but it didn't help.

BTW about downgrading, just in case someone wants to do it and would find the below useful:
  • Download npk from https://mikrotik.com/download
    * Copy link for the current version and edit version numbers e.g. in the following replace "[ver]" with "7.6"
    https://download.mikrotik.com/routeros/[ver]/routeros-[ver]-arm64.npk

    * Download "extra packages" zip in a similar way
  • Upload routeros and wifiwave2 npks to the root dir via WinBox (without wifiwave2 npk the downgrade was not successful)
  • Go to System -> Packages and click Downgrade
  • After reboot go to System -> RouterBOARD and you should see your ver in the "Upgrade firmware" field. Click Upgrade
EDIT:
Uptime (1 day and 6h) Noticed that wifi not stable all the time - when I walk around the house devices are disconnecting and need to reconnect. It looks like the signal strength degraded significantly - in places where I had -35dBm now it is around -80dBm and lower :/ I'm fed up with this! Returning this device and going back to my old hAP ac lite.

Mikrotik do something about it!

It seems that since I updated to 7.10 or 7.10.1, the network drops disappeared. Only the weak signal strength remained on both bands.

I could connect without problems (with hap ax2), but there were problems with random disconnection from wi-fi (in ros 7.6) and with low signal strength in both bands (starting with ros 7,8). In the stable version 7.10.1, it seems that the problems with the signal drop have disappeared, but the one with the reduced strength of the wifi signal remains

I hope this can resolve also for hAP AX3 based on IPQ6000.

Hello to all, we had many problems as above described by other members of forum, does anyone confirm that the so critical issues are solved ? We must take a decision for deployment and buy extra hap ax2 but we are confused with the so many issues reported. Is there everything fixed ? Its so unpleasant that so basic functions are not guaranteed.

No problems for me on AX3, AX2, cAP AX nor AX Lite using 7.11b6 (apart from 7.9, I didn't see too many wifi issues with earlier versions on those devices).

You might better wait for stable 7.11 release if it is for field deployment and already do some extensive testing using latest 7.11b6 version.

I can confirm you that, at least for me, there is no problem with ax devices from Mikrotik.

My whole network is on Mikrotik wireless again.

cAP ax is working great if you plan to use it as AP

I had lots of problems with 7.9 and 7.10 dropping the 5GHz radio. With the 7.11 beta 4 and later RouterOS and firmware (which has the IPQ-6010 hang fix), the 5Ghz radio has not dropped yet. (hAP ax2)

First some facts:
AX line is not out for over a year so please be correct in what you say. A known issue for over a year is therefor complete rubbish.

As for Wifi problems on that line, I repeat: I ONLY had problems with 7.9 version (beta and stable). Nothing afterwards.
But I don't know how you are going to use your devices.

Okay, so if you have means to test it and you have protocols in place why do you rely on things seen on the Internet ? Test it yourself then and if it's satisfy your needs then deploy it.

There were problems with stability but they are solved now...

I've never had problems with signal dropping out or with reduced signal strength and right now I have over 30 wireless devices connected to cAP ax, IoT devices, laptops etc. I deployed one ax2 at my parents house and they have 2 IPTV's connected by wireless, laptops, phones, HVAC and they never had any complaints regarding WiFi (ROS is version 7.7 i think)

We had same problems discussed here with all 7.9 version. These problems have been resolved now, we are running 7.11.2 and the issues with IPQ-6010 have been resolved.

Take notice that you have to download and install the wifiwave2 npk file separately - when we were upgrading, we did not copy the wifiwave2 file, and then both the wifi interfaces "disappeared" when the device was rebooted/upgraded.

Maybe we did it in the wrong way - but it was scary to see the interfaces disappeared when upgraded - we assumed it was failed hardware. But only missing drivers etc.

Probably MT should make this process bit more streamlined - like in v6 we never had such issue when upgrading.

Thanks, hope the above helps somebody.

Process is streamlined enough.
If you upgrade through CLI or Winbox, wifiwave2 package (and other present packages) will be upgraded automatically.
If you manually drop npk file on your device, then it is your responsibility to drop the other needed package files as well.

Depending on ROS6 version, you may have used a bundled version which included all needed packages.
Unbundled versions however had the exact same mechanism.

I was trying something out that made no sense. Basicly instead of having 1 single mikrotik device (ax2) I turned it into 3 - Router done by a 5009, ax ap by an ax2 and ac ap by an ac2.

Since I did this the AX2 has not dropped the wifi, not even once. I was wondering if this was coincidental or not so i tried reverting it back to do routing and ap functions and it dropped the wifi in 5 days more or less.

When I had an ax2 as a router and ap and it froze once I decided to make it router and station instead because that wireless was only used for a bridge and that also made the wifi stop dropping

This seems to me more like an interaction problem between routing and wifi running at the same time, making wifi fail. This is such a Byzantine error.

Just out of curiosity are any of you having issues using the device as a router and an AP at the same time?

hi, yes, ax2 router + AP same time

Re: hAP ax2 randomly drops WiFi SSIDs (both 2,4 and 5Ghz)

I have recently started having the same issue after I upgraded to 7.11.2, both my Wifi SSID (2.4 & 5ghz) drops randomly 2 to 3 times in 24 hours and most of the clients cannot re-connect.I noticed that my phone and the ipad which supports wifi6(ax) stay connected and every other device gets disconnected. I was not having any issues before this upgrade. I have since then tried downgrading to every single release from 7.6 to 7.11.2 and the issue is persisting, has anyone resolved this? I factory reset and restored from backup also, this gave me around 10 hours of stability but it crashed again this morning.

Mine is a simple setup and I am using the HaP AX2 as a home router in ap mode. Does anyone have any solutions to this problem?

Here you go:
After today morning's wifi drop issue I have made a slight change to the config. I have set channel.skip-dfs-channels=all previously it was channel.skip-dfs-channels=10 min CaC
Also note: once both the wifi SSIDs crash, the only way to get all my clients to reconnect is to power cycle the router.

Are you using original power adapter with ax2 ? Do you have any other adapter to test ?

I am using the original power adapter, I have my old HaP AC2 power adapter but not sure if the specs are the same. The router uptime is normal and it doesn't have any power fluctuation reboots during this issue. Any reason to suspect power adapter issue?

Is it possible, can't hurt to try it... If you experience same thing then you should create support ticket and you should create supout.rif file when your wireless interfaces crashes.

Ok, thanks, will try that next. I have already raised a case with support and supout has been sent multiple times, they have no clue what's going on.

Latest development: for the first time in a month I have 24hrs of stability after my configuration change of skip dfs channel from 10mincac to all.

Fingers crossed that issue is resolved. Will monitor further and report back

Maybe you had problems with radar detection ? Can you see in logs if radar is being detected ?

Nothing in the logs regarding radar, and mikrotik support also didn't pick that up when I sent supout to them. Anyways it's been stable for more than 30 hours now, so I think my issue is resolved. The router would have been using DFS channels wich had radar interference and 10minCaC did not help!

Although I did notice my 5ghz range has gone down. I have set Antenna gain to 0, is this the only thing I can do to improve signal strength?

OK. Any particular setting to improve range? Maybe 20mhz channels on both 2.4 and 5.0?

Personally I have 2.4 GHz on 20 MHz channel width, and 5 GHz on 40MHz channel width. This will help you if you are in a crowded area.

Other recommendations are scan area, set your channel to something that is free or less crowded. Don't leave frequency on auto.

Strange, as I find it rock stable (running at my parents house). My used config:
/interface wifiwave2 channel

add band=2ghz-ax disabled=no frequency=2412,2437,2460 name=CH2.4G width=20mhz

/interface wifiwave2 security
add authentication-types=wpa2-psk,wpa3-psk disabled=no group-encryption=ccmp name=SSID1

/interface wifiwave2
set [ find default-name=wifi2 ] channel=CH2.4G configuration.country=Netherlands .dtim-period=3 .mode=ap .ssid=SSID1 disabled=no security=SSID1
set [ find default-name=wifi1 ] channel=CH5G configuration.country=Netherlands .dtim-period=3 .mode=ap .ssid=SSID1 disabled=no security=SSID1

/interface wifiwave2 access-list

Only thing left to try is to use power adapter of HAP ac2 with the AX2 and see if same issue occurs. Someone here suggested it could be a power adapter issue....Anyone think a faulty power adapter can cause wifi drops?

If you restart the radio by disabling and enabling... does that fix it?

Does a reboot by cutting the power fix it?

Back on the AC units... I would have the 2.4 still broadcasting. It just wouldn't let anything connect.
My answer was to put a netwatch on a printer. If it dropped offline I would have that the cAP AC reboot. The printer would immediately reconnect.

I used that fix for a few months on other installs. But we got confirmation from Mikrotik it was a HARD LIMIT in the radios in how they dealt with noise. Had to give up and move back to our old wifi manufacture. Paid out of pocket to upgrade a lot of units. But the complaining stopped as soon as the cAPs were replaced.

Many MT WiFi APs occasionally just cease operation in noisy environments. They still broadcast, but do not let stations connect. There is no other way to bring them back to operation than a power cycle. The only improvement is MT stopped denying it, as they did for a long time.
The root cause is poor RF electronics design and there is no way to fix it with ROS updates. See also this thread

I just can repeat my self: Never put MT WiFi APs into noisy environments. Especially not if you are the one being called and blamed if things do not work.
Do not let them fool you. It's not a config issue. It's a HW problem.
Everyone ignoring this advice learned it the hard way and had to replace them, like you had to.

Just want to confirm I had the bug with RouterOS 7.6 (out of box) no matter what settings I'd change. Both SSIDs weren't in list on any device until you disable and enable both wireless interfaces.

After upgrade to 7.11.2 it works well for 10 without these problems.

just updated to 7.12 .. and right after update ax2 5ghz radio died ... actually it still works . sniff/torch and so on working . just radio does not broadcast anymore ( tx/rx 0 and SMB status instead of RSMB ) . reboot - does not work . enable disable ( which worked previously ) does not work as well . any ideas ?

ps maybe may help .. iphone does not see 5ghz network of ax2 at all ... but intel wifi AX210 adapter SEE THAT NETWORK BUT AS - OPEN ( without encription/ but it should be encrypted wpa3/wpa2 ) .but unable to connect there as well

@mo3ulla

Quick things to check (apart from config as requested by gigabyte091):
- frequency which can not be seen by client device ?
- Security unable to be handled by client device ?
- frequency in DFS range ? Then it can take up to 15 minutes before something is being transmitted.

I've been using the hAP-ax2 for an year already. Always had these random drops on 5Ghz AX network. Usually, restart of the interface wont help and the channel comes back somewhat randomly. However, today after reading about DFS channels purpose, I've disable the function not to use those frequencies at all. Then even without restarting the router, the AX network was immediately visible and stable since. So, my assumption is that DFC equipment in my vicinity is occasionally using the channels causing the drops I've seen for months.
