Configuration for QSFP+ Breakout to 4xSFP+

Wed Jan 11, 2023 12:29 pm

Hi everyone!

I connected a CRS354 with a QSFP+ port to a CCR2004 with 4xSPF+. I use the mikrotik breakout cable Q+BC0003-S+.
So far the link itself works fine. I disabled autonegoation on the qsfpplus1-1 to qsfpplus1-4 interfaces, but left autonegoation enables on the 4 SFP+ ports.

What I am now wondering and did not find an answer to is: Do I need to create a bond to fully use the 40Gbps or can I leave it as I have now?

Thanks for your advice!

be aware a bonding interface on 2004 will run on software, not hardware accelerated

Yes, thank you for that information (I actually was not aware of that).

Has anyone the answer to the bonding question? Is it actually necessary? (All tough, I assume I won't be anywhere near the 40Gbit)

Bump as I do not have an answer to my original question.

Using a breakout cable (regardless of the involved switches/routers): Is it enough to just have the links online or do I have to configure a Bond?

Anyone here that might be able to answer that?
