RB4011iGS+RM power consumption

Wed Jan 11, 2023 6:07 pm

Hello!

The documentation RB4011iGS+RM says that power consumption is:
Max power consumption 33 W
Max power consumption without attachments 18 W
But what does "without attachments" mean, does it mean only PoE/USB/SFP+, or does connected ethernet also affect consumption?
DC 12V 2A worked not stable and with errors.

...connected ethernet does not consume power...

Yes, actually it does, but actually it almost doesn't matter

I was expecting some specialist to appear...
When you're already full of wisdom, then why did not you tell us how much power is consumed on the ethernet port?

It is clear to everyone that there is some consumption, but it is also clear that it is negligible compared to the total consumption of the CPU and other electronics, especialy to the PoE OUT
The consumption of the gigabit port is between 0.25 and 0.5W, which for the 4011 means 5W if all ports work at maximum.

Do you think it's worth mentioning the total consumption of 33W?

Calm down...
A RB4011 without any attachments is doing 7.5 watt on my desk, not 33.

DC 12V 2A worked not stable and with errors.

i think you are at the lower edge of supported voltages, i think is better to stick with 24volts for PoE and at least 18-19volts on jack for reliable operation

if you are trying a 12volt adapter, normal voltage drop because rb4011 can ramp up to 1.5 amp load this can easily get you close to 11-10 volts, this puts you below spec

Max Power WITH all POE attached is 33W. No more. E.g. add 2 time cap AC and you may already have trouble (13W for each at least, 24W max, times 2 = 26W - 48W)
Max power with no POE attached to it, only normal ethernet (disregarding several digits after the comma) = 18W

Sitting on a desk doing nothing is less
