2 separate PPPoE Connection to RB4011iGS+RM

Thu Jan 19, 2023 4:46 am

Hi, I have a RB4011iGS+RM. I have two separate ISP connections, connection A with 500Mbps download/upload and connection B with 800Mbps download/upload. Can I route both of them through the RB4011? No load balancing will be involved, they are separate connections that go to separate switches. If it is possible, will there be any performance drops? Thanks.

I guess that RB4011 should be able to pull it, but without any huge margin.

PPPoE itself seems to come with unexpectedly large performance overhead (as compared to simple routing). Then it comes down to proper routing between both LANs and WANs ... which could be a hog if mangling has to be part of the equation. Firewalling with NAT (if that's also necessary) will be a hog again if mangling has to be done ... because this means fasttrack (at least partially) has to be disabled, while performance figures (on product page) reflect reality when fasttrack is active.
