On X86 IPv4 Fast Path Issue

Sat Jan 21, 2023 8:56 am

I have a X86 router build on intel 10th gen i5 with Supermicro Pci Cards, but as i configured it to work in IPv4 fasth path to reduce cpu usage but it's shows IPv4 fast path is active but not showing any packets or bytes as shown below

Image

also as you see it's showing 9-10% CPU usage on only around or up 2Gbps bandwidth which in my consideration using much more cpu where ccr1009 8g 1s 1s+ using only 3-4% with ipv4 fast path active and managing ppoe server with 1200+ Mbps. My X86 router just have 5 BGP routes and three 20 static routes that's it nothing else. Is it normal or have any problem please help with this.

i think fast-path is hardware dependent

due to variety of x86 hardware possible combinations i dont think will be feasible

so for fast-path deployments a fast routerboard can blow an x86 machine

x86 can be more useful for heavy processing scenarios in "slow" path, for example heavy queuing
