Inexperience with Wireless - Please Advise

Mon Jan 23, 2023 4:21 pm

Hello, I've supported wired networking for decades but this is a first getting hands-on for anything other than home wi-fi. We are in need of a wireless solution to provide a connection for event streaming from our facility's ballfield to the campus Meraki network. We are looking at the Wireless Wire Cube to provide to link but aren't sure what to put on the ballfield end. A Meraki switch and AP that we use throughout our campus environment? Or additional Mikrotik products? The ball games will be live-streamed by a vendor that simply requires a good wifi connection at the ballfield. The Wireless Wire Cube seems to be able to get us the link from a central point at the ballfield to the campus network, but what are some options to provide good wifi coverage at the field itself?

Wireless Wire Cube is a Great Point to Point link.

Provided you have clear line of site, power at both ends and are within distance spec.

Get an outdoor access point FROM YOUR CURRENT WIFI PROVIDER. Then join it to your system locally. Once thats done... take it out to cover the field.

Get a POE switch that powers the link and the WAP... then its a matter of mounting.

Skip the idea of tying Mikrotik WiFi into your system. Get an outdoor Meraki or more than one if need be.

If wireless ain't your thing... you really wont enjoy trying to figure out Mikrotik WiFi issues.
