I still have my hAP and it still drives me mad.
I ran netinstall with the option to clear the configuration (OS 7.7) and then connected my laptop to ether2. Nothing else was connected. I ran ping (and nothing else) for some time, and after around packet 900 the hAP just stopped being there. Well, physically it still existed, but I got network unreachable from then on.
This is not the first time that the hAP just disappears. So far I blamed it on misconfiguration from my side most of the times, except when merely accessing the web UI caused it to UNREACHABLE itself again. (Repeatedly. Reboot, ping runs, open web, UNREACHABLE.)
Before I tried adding ether1 to the bridge interface (defcon), then I wanted to print the firewall settings (getting there took a few seconds, but autocomplete worked), and … UNREACHABLE. Weird was that the ether1 and ether4 LEDs were dimly lit, when connecting any port to RB260 the LED on the RB260 did not light up at all, not sure what that means. Reboot, LED lights up on the RB260, but I still cannot ping it as if it had forgotten that it should be doing network stuff.
Some time ago I tried connecting to it from Winbox, but in that state it did not even discover a MAC address until I netinstalled it over.
Any ideas how I can proceed? Is this guy just broken for no reason? Can I somehow MAC-ping it from my Linux?
Thanks,
Simon
edit: Downgraded to 6.49.7. Connected to it, added an SSH key to the user over the web UI, UNREACHABLE. After a minute it is reachable again and I can connect to it (only web, SSH key does not work), log shows reboot without shutdown, and /system routerboard print shows:
