OSPF + Wireguard = "address afi invalid"

Wed Feb 08, 2023 1:17 pm

Hi all,

I want to integrate a Wireguard link into an OSPF enabled network.

If I just set up a lab with two routers (v7.7) with a working wireguard link between them and then try to lay OSPF on top, I can't get it to work.

I've set the interface template to 'nbma', but adding the static neighbour with an address in the form REMOTEIP%WIREGUARDINTERFACE (e.g. 10.0.2.1%wg-test02) as suggested here makes the static neighbour invalid with the error "address afi invalid".

To be clear, the wireguard link is working correctly and router test01 (10.0.1.1) can ping test02 (10.0.2.1) through it, so this has to be my misunderstanding over how nbma networks and static neighbours work in OSPF.

I would be very grateful if somebody could point me in the right direction?

Cheers,
Nicholas.

Re: OSPF + Wireguard = "address afi invalid"  [SOLVED]

Solved. At least partially.

I'm used to IPv6 and so set up the instance as a type 3 without thinking about it.

Changing it to a type 2 for testing with IPv4 addresses and it works fine.

d'Oh!

Leaving this here in case anybody else has the same problem in future!

Nicholas.
