CCR2216-1G-12XS-2XQ L3HW vs CRS5xx

Wed Feb 15, 2023 6:21 pm

HI,

Am I right to assume that this model would have the same speeds as the crs5xx if used in L3HW offloading as they have the same switch chip? The goal is to use this as an IX switch with BGP. Im pretty sure the route counts would be under 120K. Im thinking OSPF to communicate with our other IXs in different regions. I currently have been using x86 bare metal systems for years with great CPU routing speeds in access of a couple hundred Gigs. But going in to the IX space with near wire speed bandwidth among members I need the ASICS but need the memory of 16G for the BGP hence going the CCR2216 route. Thoughts?

CPU is still required for the control plane, so I don't think you'll achieve quite the same results as the 2216 if you need lots of BGP Peers, ARP entries, etc.

For simpler networks with lower route / arp / mac table counts, I think you'd probably experience similar results for throughput since it's the same ASIC.
