Failover - RSTP bridge or bonding - which is better?

Sun Feb 19, 2023 9:48 pm

Trying to make a link with failover.
In each end there is a Powerbox Pro, to which I have connected an nRay to ether2 and an SXT ac to ether3
RSTP bridge in each end works fine, bridge priority to 4000 makes the bridge of the "Master" powerbox root bridge.
On master (AP) end, ether2 has priority 40, and on slave (client) end, ether3 path cost is 20.
This way the nRAY has priority.
However it takes a few seconds for the reserve link to kick in once the nRAY link is lost.
Any way to speed up this evaluation time?

I have also experimented with bonding.
But as it is the connection across the links i want to monitor, not the ethernet interfaces of the Powerboxes themselves, guess I must go for ARP monitoring?
But which IP addresses do I use for ARP IP targets? The address of the Powerbox at the opposite end? Or can I use the addresses of a unit beyond it?

I want a solution that switches as seamlessly back and forth as possible between the links.
Which one is faster, RSTP or bonding, and what do you recommend guys?
