Winbox - Multiple Host Interfaces

Thu Feb 23, 2023 2:27 pm

Hi,

my Windows host which is used to run Winbox has multiple network interfaces and when Winbox scans for Neighbors it only finds the Mikrotik devices on one of the interfaces.
How can I tell Winbox to scan also the other interfaces?

If I directly give the IP address of the device which is not found during the Neighbors Scan, Winbox will connect to this device without problems. It only is not appearing in the scan results of Winbox.

Any ideas?

Thanks a lot in advance,

Thomas

I have seen it as well from time to time.

3 solutions I use:
1- only use IP (I know, not always possible when goofing up config of the device)
2- disable the unused network interfaces (quite easy on Windows)
3- use ROMON and connect through a device you CAN connect to (I make it a habit to enable ROMON on all MT-devices I have under my control. That and removing default admin account are always the first 2 things I do on a new device)

You need to make sure the interface is using the private network profile.

These instructions may or may not be relevant today:

Doesn't make a difference in my experience.
All my home networks are private and still it sometimes fails to "see" a device.

There are probably more potential issues, of course, and I think one or two times it hasn't been enough for me either, but almost every time the profile is what I need to change for it to work. Specifically I believe the network discovery option needs to be enabled.

I changed this and Winbox recognized the interface.
