Need some advice

Tue Mar 21, 2023 9:44 pm

First post and need some help/advice. I need to replace my Cisco 6500-E core switches in my datacenter and need to know which (if any) Mikrotik Switches is a potential replacement? A 6500-e is old tech and don't want to go the Cisco route again. I need 10GB ports, fiber and/or copper, for my down stream switches, 16-48 ports and load balance/crossover capabilities. Can a Mikrotik be a direct replacement for a Cisco core switch?

Thanks in advance.....

What 6500-E chassis do you have ? 6503 / 6504 / 6506 / 6509 / 6513 ?
What SUP's have you installed ?

It all depends on the features & services that you use today on these chassis. Without knowing that its impossible to say of a Mikrotik switch would be capable to act as a replacement.

The Cisco 6500 is the most successful switch on the planet in terms of sold units/ports. There have been multiple generations of sup-cards to keep it up to date. (eg SUP 2T)
Its clear that price-wise you cannot compare it with any Mikrotik CRS product.
