100Mbps on a 2011UiAS

Sun Mar 26, 2023 4:50 pm

Hi all, I have a issue with a 2011UiAS that does not want to go faster then 100Mbit.
I know it's a oldie and it might need replacement, but the almost exact 100Mbit makes me wonder if i did not screw up the config.

Background:
When the 2011UiAS was just out, i helped a friend to install it for his hotel. He has 2 VDSL lines incoming.
Back then the lines were 50Mbit each, and the router performed well. Its doing Dual Wan via PCC. masquerading for the 2 lines, has minimal firewall rules and about 30 simple queues.

Current:
Lines have been upgraded to 200Mbit each. Same Dual Wan via PCC and same simple queues.
(there were some other rules related to hotspot and a vlan but those are disabled to see if it had any influence)

When i do a speedtest, the speed always limits around 95-99Mbits.
All ports report 1Gb. Connected directly to the provider routers it brings full line speed of around 190-195.

When i look in a export of the config, i see this and wonder if its related ? (the ports still say they negotiate on 1Gb, so i doubt it but want to be sure)
It did look strange to me as port 1-5 should be the gigabits and ports 6-10 the 100Mbit ?
-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
set [ find default-name=ether1 ] name=ether1 speed=100Mbps
set [ find default-name=ether2 ] name=ether2 speed=100Mbps
set [ find default-name=ether3 ] name=ether3 speed=100Mbps
set [ find default-name=ether4 ] name=ether4 speed=100Mbps
set [ find default-name=ether5 ] speed=100Mbps
set [ find default-name=ether6 ] advertise=\
10M-half,10M-full,100M-half,100M-full,1000M-half,1000M-full disabled=yes
set [ find default-name=ether7 ] advertise=\
10M-half,10M-full,100M-half,100M-full,1000M-half,1000M-full
set [ find default-name=ether8 ] advertise=\
10M-half,10M-full,100M-half,100M-full,1000M-half,1000M-full
set [ find default-name=ether9 ] advertise=\
10M-half,10M-full,100M-half,100M-full,1000M-half,1000M-full disabled=yes
set [ find default-name=ether10 ] advertise=\
10M-half,10M-full,100M-half,100M-full,1000M-half,1000M-full disabled=yes
------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Also i could not find where i would have set ports 1-5 to 100Mbps in the Winbox Gui... All ports have all options in advertise enabled.
As the two WAN's (3-4) & the lanport (2) show 1Gb negotiation so it has me confused.

Any clue if its my config or its just on the limits of the hardware ?
As a sidenote, its still running 6.44, i am 3500Km away so i did not dare to do an update.
Greetings and thanks
Steve

Sounds like its the cable, what else would cap it suspiciously just under 100mbps ?

Anav, It was the first thing i had him check, but if it was a cable, i would think that at least one of the sides would show that it negotiated at 100Mbit.
They are all short patch cables, both the 2011UiAS and the modems show gigabit negotiation.
Hence the confusion about the lines in the cfg and the almost exact hard limit at 100.
Have checked other backups that i have from a 2011 on another location and it does not have the "speed=100Mbps" in the config. However i do not know if its related.

Took the plunge and updated it to 6.49.7.
Still the same, so its not the firmware version. Everything still shows gigabit except the speedtest itself ;)

if you disable the LCD display, does the speed increase?

Where is your internet source, and where is linked your device?

You can obtain 1G only if are used exclusively for both one from ethernet1 to 5, or the sfp

About Router CPU poser, can route without any problem 200Mbps.

I own same device. (ros 6.49.7)
Rb2011 is over 10 years old. I can reach 200mbps max routing speeds (VDSL) only with fasttrack enable. Otherwise cpu max at 100mbps around
you said you have 30 queues. this is cpu intensive for rb2011. try testing with fasttrack enabled and check speeds. enabling fastrack will bypass PCC.
if everything fails, upgrading to a more powerful device something like 4011 or 1100AHX4 seems solid.

Thanks Freemannn, i guess its just at its limits. I already suspected it, but the speed=100Mbps in the config on the gigabit ports threw me off.
Fasttrack is not an option because the ppc is needed, so will advice upgrade.

Thanks all !
