hAP ax2 repaired router link problem AGAIN

Tue Apr 04, 2023 7:24 am

So, after 2 months of waiting for one of my routers to be repaired by Mikrotik i finally got it back and with repair note I quote: "Repaired". You can guess once... It's NOT REPAIRED, problem is even worse now... now ether3 after some time fallback to 100 mbps link speed then back to 1 Gbps... How did you manage to broke it even more ??

And the worst thing is that i have another ax2 with same problem... Also my old hAP ac3 have far more stable WiFi... I get frequent dropouts with ax2...

I asked my distributor exactly the same question, what was repaired ? And guy told me that they didn't said anything, they just sent it back... And that took 2 months...

I'm sure, I tried to connect laptop, PC, wife's laptop and NAS directly to the main router with the same cable and I always get 1Gbps (main router is ax3) also other ports on ax2 connects with 1 Gbps with the same cable. I tried other cables, from 1 meter to 3 meters long, CAT5, CAT5e, CAT6, i even have one CAT7 cable, same thing...

And distributor said that they replicated the problem, that's why they send it to repair.

At this point i really thinking about returning both ax2 and just get ubiquiti or TP-Link AP and keep ax3 as router which really works like a charm.

Little update,

I returned routers yesterday and they tested them at their shop and they confirmed that they are indeed faulty, on repaired router they confirmed ether2 and now ether3 and second router have issue on ether2 have the same issue, and unfortunately they could only offer me to take something else as they don't have ax2 and they don't know when it will arrive again...

I asked for ax3 but no luck...

Thanks for the update. You are either very unlucky or there might be a batch issue. I have seen a few threads about similar symptoms. Usually, link speed problems in homes are caused by damaged cables or cheap uncertified cables from Amazon. Good to know that the ax3 is working well...

Yea, the first thing I tested is my home wiring which is done with CAT6 cable but wiring is okay.

I'm sure ax2 is a great device but it seems i really get unlucky this time. It sucks because my distributor don't even know when they will be available, no ax2, 3 or cAP ax.

Latest problem was on repaired router that ether3 connects with device at 1Gbps and then if i tried to do something that is using a lot of bandwidth (eg. transfering files to NAS) connection is dropped, and reestablished after 4-5 seconds with 100 Mbps link speed. Then, after reboot i get 1Gbps again

I have not done any testing so far but with the same device and cabling that worked ok before, ether3 on the AX2 seems to have intermittent problems.

This is the worst sequence I could find in the logs, most of the time the problem is less severe.

My advice, bring it back to dristributor, it must have been some sort of production error. I got two new ax2 two days ago and every link is now 1Gbps no problem

Different devices and different cables produce different results on ether3... some more stable, some less... all bad though.

Same device/cable plugged into ether4 works fine.

I will return the unit at a later date so that I can hopefully get a new one from a different production run.

I can confirm that both ax2 that i got new work like a charm, no more problems with link speed.

Turns out the problem is not specific to ether3.
Both an Intel I218-V and a Qualcom AR8171 chipset trigger port flapping in combination with the AX2 on all ports.
I have put a simple switch in between for now.
