https://help.mikrotik.com/docs/display/ ... uct+Naming

So... either improvished "Lite9" in one scheme
"L" is a Lite,
0 means no ethernet
0 means no wireless
and with "9" as the model name.

If follows "Exceptional naming", anyones guess...

According to document, the leading "L" is for series
1st symbol stands for series (this can either be a number or a letter)

So nothing to do with "lite".

But: it can't be from "RB" series, because it should have only 3 symbol name for product and the 4th should already denote board feature ... but "9" as board feature is not documented. New ax devices follow this nomenclature making them "RB" series devices.

Likewise it can't be from "CRS" series, again board name consists of 3 digits (even if MT changed the rule to allow a letter as first symbol) while second and third digit show total number of wired interfaces. If MT was preparing for 100+-port switch, then it could include 4th digit to expand range of possible number of wired ports ... in this case this device might be a CRS series L with 9 wired ports. But I find this explanation highly unlikely.

It could be from "CCR" series, those have 4 symbol names. First "digit" stands for series ... letter symbols are not documented, but could be MT is going to introduce another CCR series ... an "L" series (it could be for "Lite"). The second digit is reserved (it's being used as sort of generation number in CCR2xxx series), the rest of digits (two) indicates total number of cores ... 9 cores is an odd (in two senses ) number of cores in modern days, but we did have CCR1009 so it's not unheard of ...

Maybe this is a modular baseboard that can be populated with modules e.g. 802.11ay, 10gigabit networking.

Or maybe a storage/container platform.

Can't be a typo, 5009 is already present and L009 is added at the end... :)
Or not?

Oh..... now I understand?....
L41G-2axD is the hAP ax lite...
Probably some lite version of one 5009 without SFP, USB and 9 Gigabit only....

But... reading better the string..... what is CME??? Probably a KNOT evolution???

Nice marketing video to promote the L009, but it's missing 2 ethernet ports to be an RB2011 upgrade.

Love the form factor and price, but need dual band 2 & 5Ghz and, probably more CPU if it's only 4x faster than the 2011. 2011 and the similarly CPU powered hAP AC Lite would reliably max out around 75Mbps using PPPoE for the WAN. One of these priced around $130 US that had dual band WiFi, and has a CPU a bit faster than the hAP AC2/3 so it can handle 1Gbps+ TCP over PPPoE with a default set of firewall rules would be a great seller (AC2 & 3 using PPPoE for WAN maxed out around 800Mbps over TCP with default firewall rules last time I benchmarked them).

i think in an effort not to "self-compete" with the hap ax3 they have crippled this reference with that CPU

come on guys !!! we are in 2023: high performance and single band wi-fi cant be in the same sentence !!!

this is practically a hAP ax Lite with a bigger enclosure !!!

sorry about my words but i am disappointed

I trully beleive that you guys have had your reasons which obviously i dont understand

Hap ax lite has arm32.
Just saying...

But I must admit, I was thinking along the same lines when I saw the specs.

Hap ax lite has arm32.
L009 has ROS x32
My point was that Ax Lite has an arm processor (=32 bit).
This L009 has an arm64 processor (but indeed with 32 bit ROS ?).

Until we see performance numbers, we won't really know how it compares to other models.

The dual core 800Mhz is underwhelming, the console is nice, and the switch chip has enough ports to make vlan-filtering useful as a stand alone device.

2.5 Gb on the SFP won't be as useful for many users as a 2.5Gb copper ethernet port would have been.

I wonder whether the CPU will be a bottleneck. Even the hap ac 2 had 4 cores although older gen and slightly lower clock. It does have a dedicated 1Gb port for ether1

I do wish my RB5009 had a console port built in.

Well, I have mixed feeling, but more towards disappointment.

No HW encription, and routing performance doesn't look that exciting as soon you move away from fastpath/fasttrack configuration.
When I saw the announcement yesterday I was thinking as a possible replacement for my HEX-S, but now I'm a bit skeptic.
Yes, block diagram might be better than HEX but still CPU is not convincing me...

For sure is a good devices if the logic is to have a cheap device based on ARM to be placed on that market segment and in order to phase out MIPSBE/MMPIS and focus only on ARM architecture, but I wouldn't call it an upgrade in "absolute sense".

And I agree with chechito, it look a device made to move to ARM but to not compete with HAP AX3 and RB5009.

I don't call it a "missed opportunity", but for my own case I will still point to RB5009 (altough its cost is the double L009).

Without wifi, I see perfect use for this device though I can understand in some cases at least a little bit of wifi can be useful. It doesn't always have to reach bleeding speed to be functional.
But I'll prefer my RB5009 too

Absolutely, we are on the same page.
This device makes full sense if considered in its price range and for a new setup.
But if the word "upgrade" is used with the meaning of increasing performance from and existing setup, then I pass. :)

WifI? Who need wifi on a router??? (I'm a purist  )

Seems like a downgrade in terms of CPU performance compared to HEX and more expensive. There is usecases where this makes sense but a bit disappointing in CPU performance.

No HW encription,
There may be hope, the hap ax lite is getting hw assisted ipsec in v7.10beta

*) ipsec - added hardware acceleration support for IPQ-5010 (hAP ax lite);

That's not the same chip as the L009 has (IPQ-5018), but they are probably closely related due to the similar performance numbers. At least there is the chance that ipsec performance may improve some.

But its really too bad they didn't choose the IPQ-6010 instead of the IPQ-5018. Maybe there will be a midrange M009 in the same form factor in the future.

My guess is that the SFP was included in the switch because the switch chip probably had two 2.5 channels. Being part of the switch would also make it possible to connect to a remote switch with a 2.5G SFP as a trunk link.

Seems the glass-half-empty-contingent did the job here pretty exhaustive. 8)
I can see an dsl-bw-like cpe ... with some ... options ... and nothing more was it's predecessor ... with cpu-speed increased by factor 4 now.
has a modern ARM CPU with container support
... is maybe a little bit kooky !
But the marketing department has to do something for the monthly check ?! .. or not ? : )
.
... and I do like the housing ... the color too : )
... and the serial ! ( ... yes ... I made that point already )

i think marketing is backfiring on L009 ,some of us (me included) at first expected to see it as a worthy representative of 2011-3011-4011-5009 Latvian Muscle legendary Router Family when it is far from it

We already have the rb4011 and rb5009

This Red Device first appeals to nostalgia then appeals to be more or less direct replacement of rb2011 (maybe 2011 will be discontinued soon) with some updates

and this is understandable because rb2011 still find buyers, so there is demand for this kind of product and this is the answer

SFP cage on this product maybe its compatible GPON ONU on SFPmodule, some people asked about that in rb5009 topics an operate at 2.5g

https://wiki.mikrotik.com/wiki/MikroTik ... patibility

say this for some 10g modules:

L009 -- supports up to 2.5G rate (works with forced speed mode).

maybe the compatibility list is growing here:
Cut costs, not speed – choose GPEN over GPON!
just a guess ... never seen a GPON installation on the shores of my home-zone ... MT-competition had these stuff on the list ... remember I've tried to enhance the zoo on ebay with it ...

IMHO - for home use, at least 4 poe outs are missing for capsman managed APs.

Or, combine CRS112-8P-4S-IN (passive and active poe) with L009UiGS-RM performance or better (RB450Gx4, RB5009...)

Yes, RB5009 has an all-port POE version, but not both 24 + 48V power supplies at once.
Unfortunately, the RB9xx cannot handle 48V.

There are multiple powering options for RB5009. You can use 24V up to 57V on 2 of them at the same time (but only 1 will be in use).
Your point is ... ?

For home use, this is usually not a problem (but the RB5009UPr+S+IN is 3x more expensive than the L009UiGS-RM / RB2011).

For work use, I would like a device combining e.g. CRS112-8P-4S-IN or netPower 16P with routing power RB450Gx4, RB5009...
Because CRS112-8P-4S-IN or netPower 16P can serve both 24V and 48V (57V) devices at the same time.

Hi guyes for home use, what would be a better choice?

A L009 and CAP AX

Or

HAP AX with CAP AX

Today I'm running a HAP AC2 with two CAP AC but I'm thinking of just trying out to simplify my setup and using just one CAP AX.

I have 23 wifi devices connected currently (alot of home iot devices running) Currently with the setup I have my HAP AC is running at no load at all:

Or should I just get the CAP ax and keep the HAP AC2 and not setup capsman?

My guess is that ax isn't going to make much difference for IoT devices.

For your use case and two choices you gave (although you don't specify which hap ax you are talking about, there are 3 (lite, 2, and 3).

If choosing between hap ax2 and L009 I would choose hap ax2.

I posted this about tradeoffs between hap ax2 and L009.

Personally I'd wait to upgrade your hAPac + 2 x cAPac setup... You'd be reducing the number of APs, which reduce your coverage area. e.g. AX doesn't cover more ground, only potentially high speed – but you won't see higher speed if your further from an AP than before... The L009 make your upgrade even worse here since the L009 only does 2.4Ghz, while the hAPax2 does both 2.4 and 5Ghz AX... in the L0009+cAPax, you'd only have 1 source for 5Ghz coverage.

Thanks, not sure what to wait for thou...

But yes i was thinking hap ax2. The 2,4ghz limit would not be an issue since it would be installed in the basement where all the internet stuff is. The caps are installed in both ends of the house on the ground floor and that is enough to cover ground floor and 2nd floor.

Let's see if mikrotik will release a smaller cap ax (lite?)

hap ax2 has 2.4+5ghz. hAp ax lite only has 2.4.
